clutch fork hitting pressure plate?

i recently had my motor out so i changed my pilot bearing, throwout bearing, wedge collar and wire ring. now that everything is back together i can not get the car in gear. when i press the clutch i get a grinding noise not when trying to put it in gear just in neutral pressing the clutch makes it grind. i went under the car and looked in the inspection hole and it looks as if the pressure plate is in the pulled position at all times and the clutch fork and throwout bearing are hitting it. I really dont want to drop tranny for no reason but if i have to i will, just want to be sure before all the work. thanks

the pic is somewhat unclear but it looks like the clutch release fork assembly is not in the ears of the throwout bearing. if this is the case you will need to remove the trans.

do review my thread so you don't mess up the throwout bearing when you remove the trans.

i suggest you find a picture of how the fork fits into the throwout bearing. either search or ask on the board.

good luck,

Did you put the clutch disc in backwards?

I did that when I was dropping in my motor, didn't know it had a direction. Figures 50% chance of getting it wrong, and I did. That was upsetting, but now I know.

Yup, the disc isn't symmetrical for a reason . The raised side goes towards the tranny.

if i read the pic right you put it in correctly. the springs face rearward.

it seemed from your first pics that the fork arms weren't in your throwout bearing ears. you place the throwout bearing on the trans input shaft collar (grease it) and then position the clutch actuating arm so it fits on the (grease contact point)ears and bolt it to the bellhousing.

do review a shop manual before you put it together so you don't have to pull the trans again.

i'll bet you are getting good at it
