Question Clutch engagement probs

What a way to start off Thursday...

I was stopped at a stop light, with the tranny not in gear. I pressed the clutch in, it felt strange... normal pressure, then like a surge of pressure, then no pressure against my foot, then normal, rinse, repeat... I couldn't get the tranny into 1st, 2nd, 3rd, any gear. Luckly I was on a hill, so I started rolling, and popped into 2nd by revmatching. I stopped at a gas station, took it out of gear and couldn't get it back into gear. I was able to shut the car off, put in into gear, and start it with the clutch down, the starter was working harder, and I felt the car jerk a little. As I drove it home, I got up to speed (~40mph) left it in 3rd gear, depressed the clutch, i could feel the clutch engauging and disengauging as I helt the petal to the floor.

When I arrived home, I made a quick inspection, and saw no visible fluid on the slave, or master (from the engine compartment) I didn't check the cabin side of the master.

Has anyone had similar experience? It is my guess that it is either the throw-out bearing or master/slave?

Give some background. Sounds like the clutch was recently put in and is not aligned properly.

P.S. Could be a bent clutch fork. Or a broken pilot bearing.

background

1993 RX-7, 145,000 miles
engine replaced at 130,000 In Oct of 2000
Clutch replaced then too with Centerforce dual friction, I am fairly sure I replaced the throwout bearing.

Tranny 5th gear starting to have problems.
Slight whine after JimLab's bushings were installed, but not before (whining started at the install of bushings in January 02)

sounds like u also have a bad 5th gear syncro. The pilot bearing is different from the throwout bearing. The pilot bearing is the small one that goes into the flywheel where the input shaft goes in.
