noise is still there, haven't had any disengagement/engagement problems though, just sounds like rocks in a cofffe can or rod knock with clutch pushed in but car not moving, seems to come and go but always loudest on a cold start

hmm

If the clutch disengages okay, but you're hearing that noise, sounds like the pilot bearing has disintegrated. Do you feel vibration on the shifter when the clutch is disengaged? And what about when it's engaged?

no i don't notice any vibration in the shifter, however the shifter seems to sway a little while driving with the contours of the road/engine movement, figured that normal?

i noticed i can sometimes make the noise louder if i put it in 3rd with the clutch engaged and then push a little harder up as it's already in 3rd

You aren't going to be able to troubleshoot anything until you start narrowing down what isn't a problem (i.e. dropping the tranny and inspecting the pilot bearing, throw-out bearing, clutch fork, etc).

No, I meant vibration when you hear that "coffee can rattle". When the clutch is disengaged.

I'd check that input shaft bearing next time you have the trans out...

Very true. If it were my car, I'd get the trans out ASAP. I'd bet money it's the pilot bearing (honestly, seems obvious), but you can't be sure until you look...

Weird, but I am having the same problem. I pulled the tranny the other day and everything seems to look ok cept for the fact that the shaft has play. Does anyone know of places to get the input shaft bearing?

Not sure where to get the input shaft bearing online, but a dealership will be able to get it...

Pilot bearing:
http://catalog.drivewire.com/drivewi...=Pilot+Bearing

Pilot bearing seal:
http://catalog.drivewire.com/drivewi...t+Bearing+Seal

Less than $12, plus shipping.

I'd get the input shaft bearing done by a shop - opening the trans case is where I draw the line for doing the work myself...
