clutch disc w/pucks question...

Just finishing clutch/rear seal job on my '93...it had what I think was a Centerforce (orange painted pressure plate) clutch kit, disk had solid friction material on one side, 8 pucks on the other. 2 pucks were left on it when I took it apart (I think I heard the last 2 rattling around just after it failed)...my question is which side should the pucks have been on? I bought an OEM replacement, but one rebuilder I talked to said the pucks should be on the pressure plate side rather than the flywheel side, mine was the other way. Disk centre looked right (bulge to the tranny), maybe it was made wrong? Just wondering...
Also, is it common to have to "pull" the trans to the engine with bellhousing bolts on these...couldn't get it to "home" by hand....

Yes, the trans often wants to be a bastard and not go all the way in. You need to get it on just enough so the threads of the bolts catch. Then tighten evenly to suck it in.

But don't damage the pilot bearing in the process. There are short dowel pins that create some resistance to bolting them together, so I did just that - I used the bolts to snug the housings together. Make sure things are lined up good and the input shaft is in the right place before cranking them together.

In the process I messed up my new pilot bearing and will be dropping the tranny again just to fix that.
