Pretty FUNNY... I just removed my tonight to send to Ramy tomorrow for repair as well, my speedo isn't working well...
You do not have to remove steering wheel at all, you can get the cluster out by guiding it around the wheel...

Also, pull lightly when removing the hood so you don't break anything...
The tabs that hold the cluster to the hood/gauge pod is very brittle as well. do not use to much force to remove anything in that area or it will break.

I tried removing my cluster once.. i couldn't get the bastard apart..

removed the Ac logicon and center console and hood, steering shroud etc

after that i got stuck..

my hood was like glued to the cluster cover and ended up cracking it trying to take it apart

i need to change the bulbs in my cluster some are out.. and for some reason it's loose in the frame.. if i push a finger on it it goes away from me..

can someone post a more detailed description of the removal process?

just try it. its super easy.

1. remove 2 or 3 bolts under the gauge cluster dash
2. pull gauge cluster + dome straight out towards the steering wheel. the're clip'd-in.
3. unplug the gauge wires. each of them are different in size and shape. you can't mess it up.
4. unbolt and remove the main gauge cluster assembly from the back
5. scratch off orange behind plastic gauge face
6. twist and remove bulbs from behind the gauge assembly.
7. replace stock bulbs with the LED ones. plug and play
8. put gauge cluster + dome back into the car. becareful not to force the dome in if the clips are not aligned. may crack the dome if you're too violent...

i ordered my bulbs today. thanks hardbodeez for the info. i'm gonna put these LEDs in as soon as i get them.

Here is my process...
1) remove 3 screws from lower column cover and push down towards carpet.
2) remove upper column cover.
3) remove side panel on side of dash that vents A/C to the drivers door.
4) remove 3 screws that remove lower dash panel. 1 screw on side behind vent cover. (nut cooler )
5) remove 2 screws that release upper dash/gauge cluster.
6) unplug cigarette lighter, light and plugs from rear of cluster.
7) slowly lift gauge cluster assembly and angle it forward removing it slowly towards center dash.

Hope this helps.....

Dropping the steering column down to perform this task is only two nuts and two bolts away. Gives you more room and leverage. Also the risk of scratching/breaking things is reduced.
