Question clunky steering

hey guys, when I turn my steering wheel all the way to the right or left I hear this clunking noise. anyone experience this? is this a common thing with fds? anyone know what the problem is and how much it is to fix? any advice would be great. thx

It's definitely not common. Check your steering rack and tie rod ends where they interface with the hub.

I have seen cases where the steering rack bushings were badly deteriorated. Also saw a case once where the bolts holding the rack to the subframe were loose.

Jack up the car, remove the belly pan, and have a look. It shouldn't be hard to find the problem.

When I decided to tear my car down for a full resto one of the things I notice was the bolts that holds the steering u joint onto the steering shaft was missing. I too was getting a clunking noise at full lock. I'm hoping that once the car is back up and running this will have fixed it.
