Clearing CEL

I want to clear the check engine light for a problem I plan on fixing soon. I tried resetting the ECU a number of times but the CEL is still there. I've tried disconnecting the negative terminal and pressing brake for 1 min. I've tried leaving the battery disconnected for 1 hour. Still got the CEL. Is there some other way to do it?

Well, you need to fix the problem before the code will clear...

Btw, my mechanic was able to clear the stored engine codes before so that the CEL was not on all the time. I thought this could be done by resetting the ECU. Now I'm thinking he used another method.

code 11. Already replaced the IAT. Can't fix it until I splice in a new plug at the wiring harness.

Did you ever think that you are clearing it, however since the problem isn't completely fixed it's throwing the code again?

Resetting the code is pretty easy. I think that all you have to do is disconnect the battery and then hold the brake for 10 seconds.
