cleaning K & N filters..and fan question..
probably a simple answer but what is the best way to clean K&N filters (dual cones)? Do I need just soap and water or some kind of solvent.
On a more serious note, my fan has started making a loud noise as if it were hitting something. I removed my intercooler (v-mount from rotary extreme) but now I'm looking at taking out my radiator. Is there any way around this or did I just go about this back *** backwards? I thought the fans would be under the intercooler above the radiator.
Advice and signs to look for greatly appreciated.

I have no input on the fan noise, other than to inspect it like you're doing, and, as you said, in the stock setup, the fans are above/behind the rad.

When your are washing the solvent from the filters, make sure your stick the hose or tap from faucet inside the filter. As far as the fans go, they should be on top of the radiator if you are looking at them from inside the engine bay and should not be a big deal removing. Check bolt that holds down the blades to see if they are loose or if they decided to seperate themselves from the motor.

I think the fans are below the radiator with the v-mount setup. Remove the battery terminal (to avoid chopping your hands up), jack up the car, and then spin the fans by hand to see what is hitting.
Buy a filter rechange kit (cleaner + new oil for filter) for the K&N. Auto parts stores sell them.
