Cleaning Air Filter
Just buy a new filter. For me, it's not worth the hassle of cleaning it, waiting for it to dry, then re-oil, all which can take a few hours and you get your hands dirty. I just chuck the old one and put a new one in.
I didn't have the recharged kit and since the filter wasn't too dirty, I used some car wash concentrate, which was gentle not to remove all the oil. I reoiled it afterwards using the KN oil.
I wouldn't throw mine out since they are $50 each. If you are in a hurry, just use a paper filter instead that runs you $10.
