Clarification on clutch switch needed

Doing a search on clutch switch it seems like clutch switch is used when refering to the starter interlock switch or Im wrong as to the operation of the switches. I thought the starter interlock switch controlled starting with clutch depressed, but many refer to the clutch switch controlling the starting. I honestly dont have a clue what the clutch switch actually is used for and am wondering if its a vital switch or not.

TIA

You are to push in the clutch before cranking so if it is in gear the car will not jump , a safety thing. If your switch is bad ,unplug it and put a jumper wire in the plug.

The clutch switch also controls the idle somehow. I think it was supposed to increase the idle speed slightly when in gear and the clutch is depressed, because when it fails, the car will stall when you press in the clutch while in gear, especially if the A/C is on.

The switch is located near the top of the clutch pedal. You can easily see it. The part number is LA01-66-490A. Hope that helps....
