CA Cig lighter low voltage

Well Guys need some help while driving under 1,2,3, gears my radar detectors says low voltage and will not work. But on the highway everything is a ok in 4 or 5 gear. I assuming it is the low voltage during low gears that the alternator put out. Or should i just change my Cigar fuse from 15 to 20. I was also thinking of going with IRP alternator to resolve my problem Thanks Le

Fuse capacity is not the problem. It is overkill as it is - the radar detector draws less than 1 amp. I would, as you suggested, suspect the alternator. Do not, IMO, get a generic re-man alt - they are very often junk.
