chiped apex seal question?
That can definitely cause a lean condition. The more G forces on the tank (either in the straight line or in turns) the more sloshing you will have. In my experience if you are below about 1/4 to 1/3 of a tank you are taking a risk of the sloshing causing a lean condition. The FD gas gauges are crap and that doesn't help.
Now I will say this--I've seen motors survive going lean, especially in lower gears. Where you really risk it is if you are doing something really hard on the engine, like a 4th gear pull, and you lose fuel pressure somehow and go super lean.

Left handers w/ less than 1/3 of a tank is taking a chance. I have seen in happen. I was in a 35R FD at the track w/ a hard left hander 1/3 tank left w/ 101 in the tank and water injection. As we were coming out of the corner on it hard you could hear and feel the detonation. No problems w/ the car all day until then. The motor survived and runs to this day, but if you are tracking these cars I wouldn't go much under 1/2 a tank unless you have modded the fuel system. I don't think people understand this.
I have my wideband mounted on the steering column trim, just below the tach, so I can spot any potential problems easily. If your fuel pump starts sucking air you'll see the lean condition immediately.
The problem is that on the track there is no way to see the wideband in the situation I was in. It just proves that if you are going to be on your car hard get the fuel set up right.
This is golden, I can't tell you how many guys who track their cars I've had here from this issue over the years. Some I even warned a few days before.

His idea of in view is it shoved in the glove box
I have tried to get him to mount it so he can see it while driving. What do you guys think about swirl pot w/external pump to stop the lean condition during the turn?

just put gas in the ******* tank and watch the wideband
problem solved. Jeez people. you don't have to rip your car apart and spend a bunch of money on complicated and potentially failure-prone plumbing to prevent this problem. it's still a street car. Don't over-engineer it.

people tend to want the weight savings of running the tank marginally empty to try and get that extra .2 seconds off their lap times. not worth the end result when you have to push your car over the finish line.
i can't count how many times i've gotten irritated as **** when someone comes in for a tune and the car has 1/8th of a tank. now i just start yelling(because i have to waste my time going to the station when i have better things to do).

Very few people on this forum are good enough drivers to consistently take advantage of the ~30-50lbs of weight savings from running less gas in the tank (I know I'm not). You'd be better off just practicing more and running a full tank.
