IMHO metric gauges aren't that big of a deal. Actually, I prefer them - heck, everything else in the car is metric :). It takes maybe a day to get used to the reading from a metric gauge - once you learn what you need to know, it's no biggie.

On Jim's idea of having an all-in-one gauge:

Defi has the Defi-Link Display, which uses an OLED display. It can display water and oil temp, EGT, and fuel and oil pressure. Cool thing is you can set warning points for any input, so if something goes "in the red" it will alert you to that reading. Pretty slick.

Now, if they could just put it in a round 60mm format and get rid of the stupid screensavers... :)

also the "amber red" bf series looks as red as the needle in the d-series gauges.... last i saw, the d-series gauges matched the FD's gauges REALLY WELL! also, i just noticed that the BF series are all 60mm.... and (personally) id want 52mm gauges.... huge 60mm's i think are too big for the FD and would look kindof funny. basically of all of the gauges ive seen, the d-series is the absolute best match for our cars (i just want a freakin warning buzzer or somthing to tell me if things are going way wrong under the hood! i guess thats too much to ask)

I agree with you on the d-gauges rotormotor, but of course there are some who harp on the fact that the needle isn't exactly right (it goes through the pivot point and illuminates the other side) and the boost gauge reads in 2.5 psi increments. Eh...they are the best match by far.

The thing is that the resolution on the defi desplay (based on the demo) isn't that great and it's monochromatic.

Cost is the real limiting factor now. This is an interesting read. Look at the last page.

I'm trying to find more information about that product. Seems promising. Just a matter of getting something to output the display you want to it. The end of mechanical movement.

EDIT: $625. Maybe when I get a bonus. :D That's for the eval kit. $42 it looks like for the display alone. They come in a serial and parallel version.

Anyone feeling ambitious?

Second edit:
Alas...misleading advertising. Only 4 bit greyscale. Damn...but it's out there somewhere.

Wierd Heater problem

It seems when I turn the heater on full blast , my eyes start to hurt meaning there are some fumes coming in along with the hot air, also even when I have the switch to off it still blows on level 1.

anyone know what might cause this?

then these new autometer gauges will work great, they have a built in filtration system that will pull all the fumes out that your ac produces

Ouch,

Those prices seem steep. Still pretty decent looking gauge as far as operations go; boring looking gauge face/font though.

I do like the new BF's in amber though!

Also, are these 52mm, 60mm or 2-5/8"?

Regards,
Frank

Hmm...pretty ridiculous for Autometer to charge more than the Defi Link series they are blatantly copying.

Also, to correct some misinformation -- both the Defi Link and the Defi D-gauges are available in SI units. The BF Link gauges are not.

Personally, I don't care that my Defi Link gauges have different backlighting -- they look simply first class. In fact, I wish the OEM backlighting was green with red needles.

skunks 11-11-04 03:56 PM

they are nice for for that price id rather just buy a powerFC

apex_sideway 11-11-04 03:58 PM

Be-jesus that expensive!!

They are in the series 8 FD's. :) Not sure what is required to get the dash to work with the older ones though.
