Checking CEL Code

Did some searching but havent been able to find an answer.

Randomly I will get a check engine light as well as the hold light flashing (automatic) when driving. It doesnt come on all the time, only randomly when driving, and as soon as I shut the car off and re-start it the check engine light and hold light go away.

Ive been dealing with some intermittant idle issues and while cruising stalling issues. It would help alot if I knew what code it was throwing, but from what ive read you have to shut the car off to check the code, but as soon as I do it go's away.

Im pretty sure its a faulty sensor, as I believe im running in closed loop all the time, which means im getting 130 miles to a full tank.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Well have you ever tried pulling the code itself?

Stock ECU or PFC?

the ecu will store the codes, just because your cel stops flashing doesn't mean your ecu forgets what the code(s) were.

this page will fill you in.... http://www.fd3s.net/engine_codes.html

Yeah im an idiot. Thought it wouldnt keep the code but it did. Next issue:

Stock ecu, intake, and downpipe midpipe rb catback, automatic.

Basically runs 10 to 1 and under at idle, but air fuel is normal at cruise. Only happens when warm, very bouncy idle, wants to die at idle so I have to put it in neutral but sometimes it will still stall. Im thinking its just flooding when this happens. When cruising sometimes it doesnt respond to any throttle at all, just wants to die. So im thinking thats tps.

Today I replaced the ecu with a jdm unit, as well as the IAC and dashpot. Both havent solved my problem. Replacing the tps and coils next weekend. Also replaced the map sensor as that was the code from the check engine light.

The check engine light just came on again though. Code 17 which I think is the feedback system for the o2 sensor, anybody know what that is?

I'm actually having a similar problem with my 93 fd manual. When i cruise at 70ish for too long i get a CEL and sometimes have hot start issues where it revs to 1k then slowly dwindles down to stall. usually if i hold at 1k its find in a few minutes. and i actually thought the same thing you did >.>

I'm actually having a code 17 come on and off from time to time but i'm still getting decent gas mileage 17-18 city/hwy (bone stock 93). Any ideas or did you solve the problems? I'm leaning towards a possibility it could be an O2 sensor? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Im gonna be recieving a new o2 sensor today, so Ill let you know if that solves my code 17 problem.

As for the stalling problem, it no longer stalls but I think thats because of the japanese ecu.

I had 3 codes coming up, one for map sensor (replaced), code 17, code 40.

My hold light hasnt flashed yet, so thats good.

Ill explain. As I understand it right around 100 degrees celcius, my car enter open loop mode. The us spec ecu would just stall the car when this happens because of a faulty tps. But the japan spec ecu revs the car to 2000 rpm and bounces it there so it wont stall.

Im also gonna be replacing the coils for ***** and giggles as well as the plugs. I checked my vaccuum lines today, and they were definately replaced as they all are very pliable and stretchy.

Ohh and as for my gas mileage, 120-130 miles a full tank lmao
