Don't know, I'll let you know, but I blocked off the AWS and plugged it into the ecu connector, just zip tied the unit to the heater core pipe behind the manifold. I also blocked off the BAC and the ACV under the manifold. Everything I disabled or removed I have done before on other FD's without ecu codes(its a 93). Also, I disabled the double throttle control years ago, but was too lazy to dismantle the car just to remove the butterflies. I finally got around to polishing my extension manifold(lower intake manifold) and figured now was a good time to do all the stuff I've been putting off.

As long as the double throttle solonoid is plugged in, the ECU will be fine.

RTS3GEN:
Nice port n polish job, when I did my I didn't port match to the gasket, wish I did ported now.

funny Kyle, I'll be around, I have a guy coming down from the northland with his blown 94. I got his engine back last Friday and my buddy's Mustang is finally done(only took 7 mos. to get the damn 347 back from the shop that was building it). So I'll be working on that Saturday or Sunday a little. Give me a call when you might head out. Supposed to be nice driving weather(mid 50's this weekend)

Thanks everyone for the responses, I didn't know if anyone had ever removed not only the butterfly's but the whole cast webbing also, it's not needed without the butterfly's but not like I'm maximizing flow by removing that much material with the stock turbos. Just figured I may be able to benefit down the road, SHOULD I decide to go single.

Wow that intake openin is HUGE. That's some "port" job LOL So do you attache the elbow directly to the manifold, or does the TB assembly still mount BETWEEN the manifold and the elbow?

You would have any throttle control without the TB

So Art removed the second set of butterfly plates from the TB, and enlarged the manifold passages coming from the TB, right?

no he took out the secondary throttle plates from the UIM, not the throttle body. If you removed the upper two from the TB youd have an idle somewhere around 8,000rpms Then he cut out the supporting bracketry in the UIM, since it wasnt supporting anything anymore and not necessary to have.

Looking good RTS3GEN!

One thing I did when doing this mod was to blend the divider between the 2ndary bores on the back side of the TB to a point.

This will lower the turbulence as the two streams of air come together.

Here is a pic of mine, you could even blend more on the top and bottom parts of course.

WOW, blue,
that's awesome, makes me feel lazy for only cutting and smoothing, you went to town. I did smooth the back side of the throttle body also but not that drastically. Nice work. I was having problems finding porting tools long enough to fit all the way into the manifold runners. A brake cylinder hone ended up being the tool of choice(plus about 6 sets of replacement stones.)

My mechanic has opened his up and matched the bored out throttle body .The idle is smooth and steady .The power increase ? No way to measure only that change, sorry . All of the ports are gasket matched .All of the holes that had vacuum nipples that were removed are smooth on the inside as well .

Power? Most likely nothing you would notice. You would have to dyno the car to see numbers. Chances are the various conditons on the dyno would prevent any real accuracy. It would definately flow better, but not sure how it would really report to the wheels.

Rather, the modification allows for a better throttle response.

Looks great Art, I removed those the 1st winter I had my car, (2 years ago) when I didnt know what I was doing (and I still dont) and didnt really notice a difference with my stock twins or my single I have now. I mainly would think you would notice a difference if it was malfunctioning. I kinda took it out with the whole idealogy of "it couldnt hurt." Was there anything else you did over the winter?
