check engine light (please advise)

Car is running good, this morning I went to go to work started the car up rememebred that I forgot stuff inside, and my house key is attached to my car key so I had to turn it off (after running for like 20 seconds

I know that you are not supposed to do that, but not sure if it is the root of my problem.

I drive the car everything is perfect no check engine light, take it on the freeway to work, but when I come to a complete stop after driving on the freeway the check engine light comes on?

Still drives perfect though...

Do you think it is safe to drive, without doing damage?

Any ideas what would cause this? My rear main seal is bad and I am getting it fixed on wednesday, but it is just a little leak.

thanks for any help...

most likely it's you EGR valve. Check your engine codes it's really easy it takes about 5 min.

diagnose it first using the instructions in the above link...it's quick and easy. you'll be able to pinpoint the problem in no time. refer to your technical manual too

Thank you so much guys I was wondering. It is awesome to see such a good community!

You are right, it is the EGR valve, now I just have to figure out what that is and fix it

Thanks, if you have any more good info about fixing the EGR valve please let me know (also can I damage the engine by driving the car with a busted egr?)

it has to do with emissions. It shouldnt be too much of a problem I'd think. There are a lot of people out there that just remove it if they dont have to worry about inspections or smog. Do a search and read through scuderani's site about it a bit and you will learn a lot I guarantee it. All the information is already out there, you just have to find it on one of these sites.
