Question changing tranny fluid? + redline or BG?

I'm doing my frist 5 spd tranny fluid change on an rx-7 and I was wondering if I need anything special? Like a suction pump? Or can a funnel be used?
Also I just wanted to see if anyone was running redline or bg and what weight? Any differance?
Thanks

I don't think you NEED a hand pump, but it will make it tons easier when you fill it up, well worth the $5.

I ran redline in my trans and I was happy with it, I tihnk most of the forum members perfer neo though.

BUY THE PUMP! Filling tranny fluid is one of messiest jobs, period! I hate it with a passion.

I bought a cheap *** pump for $3 from Autozone. It was a piece of crap, and the first one broke, but I was able to make it work.

I use Redline MT90.

I use red line MTL. I dont know how you can fill it without a pump. Filling from the inside is a bad idea. It fills really slowly, and you risk getting tranny fluid on your interior. Plus, you have to get under the car anyway to make sure the level is correct.

One question I have, how do you get the proper amount in there with out having the car level? I assume most of you guys, like me, do not have access to a lift.

I just ran a hose through the engine bay and had it next to the master cylinder. Yes it took a long time!

I've used Redline and Neo, they're both good but I think Neo is better.

You'll need a pump with a hose. I think we picked up one of those cheapo ones at Pep Boys when we did mine. I used Neo, but its harder to find. I ordered it from Mazdatrix and it took about a week to get here. I did notice the light noises that come through the stick when shifting thinned out after changing the fluid, but with 66k on my transmission, I can't quite feel the full benefits of the Neo because of the condition of my synchros which would have been replaced by now except for the reliability issues that occur when your normal tranny guy lets his apprentice do a job and a unit comes back to the shop with 3rd gear in backwards.

On level ground, jack up the side of the car that has the fill hole on it. Fill the tranny until it starts to overflow. do not replace the plug. Put a pan under the car before you lower it. Lower the car back down. The excess fluid will drain out, and it will drain to the proper level. Jack the car back up and replace the fill plug.

Make sure to open Both drain plugs or some old fluid will stay in the trans. A long piece of pipe can be useful to put on the end of a wrench to get off the square plug...
