Did some searching didn't really find anything.

Has anyone tried to replace the center speaker with an aftermarket one, I did enjoy the imaging that a center speaker provided before it blew. Just curious if its worth the time to try and get something in there or not.

Thanks for the info, I still think I will consider constucting something to fit a slightly larger spear in that spot, just can't do much now cause I am nowhere near my car. I was wondering did you get the problem of poor sound in the front taken care of yet?

Absolutely The front sounds phenomenal now. But I still need to tweak it a bit...I want to bring up the rear speakers a bit, because I practically turned the gain all the way down on them Wanna bring it up just a tiny bit to attempt some sound imaging. So yea, there's a WORLD of difference between my older setup and now. It did cost me a pretty penny tho. Oh, and this is w/o a center speaker (I have a gauge pod there). Just components (speaker & tweeter mounted on the inside of the sideview mirrors)

I have never heard what an FD sounds like w/ the center speaker (all the ones I've been in, it's either blown or disconnected). I've been playing w/ the idea of putting in a replacement speaker in the center spot and making slits on the sides of the gauge pod base to allow some sound to come through. I'm just not sure if it's going to be worth all the trouble tho...

I was looking at the new dvd/receivers and some have 5.1 output which includes a center speaker. Mine is connected to my Kenwood somehow, but it is very faint. I think he bypassed the amp and connected to one of the high level channels.

FDNewbie: Do you have any pics of your setup? I'd like to see the tweeters mounted. What size speaker do you have in the doors?

I do, but they aren't very visible lol (which is a good thing...if you don't know what you're looking for, you may not notice the tweeters at all). Lemme try and take some better pics tomarrow or somethin and hit you back.

As for speaker size, they're 6" components all around (front & rear). Fronts, the tweeter is mounted higher up (as mentioned before), rears the tweeters are mounted in front of the speaker cone (an optional mounting method for Boston Acoustics' component speakers).

But IIRC (or heard correctly), the stock Bose center speaker has it's own built in amplifier that can pretty much only be run by the stock Bose system. I (or the audio guy who told me this) could be wrong tho.

it's a regular speaker, 4-ohms, I bought one. the amplifier is inside the dash to the left of the glove box.

Hmm..I wonder if the amp is still in my dash... Can you hook up that amp to an aftermarket headunit?

I think it should automatically be connected if all you did was use a wiring harness on your aftermarket headunit, if you cut and soldered I dunno. Anyone know the exact size for that center speaker and what a good aftermarket replacement one would be?

i would make a mount and put 2 swivel tweeters in its spot facing towards the back of the car while keeping them under the cover i bet that would sound awesome somethning i plan to do to mine in the future. That way u can have ur components in the doors plus the 2 tweeters in the center, 6 speakers in the front will sound great for your highs...just my thoughts

Depending on the year of your car, the amp may either be by the glove box or under the center console between the two seats.

Mine's a 94 R2, so no bose system
