Catalytic Converter Question

Hi All,

It looks like my main cat is starting to fail (I'm getting the rattling sound during decelleration). I've started looking for a replacement & would like to go Hi-flo, but have a couple of questions.

First, Would I need an upgraded ECU if I add a hi-flo with my DP & intake (stock catback)?

Second, Which hi-flo do you reccomend? Bonez has one for $500, SR Motorsports has one for $399, & N-Tech lists one for $349.

Thanks in advance for the help

You should get an ECU upgrade, whether it is having yours reprogrammed or a POWER FC, since you already have 2 flow mods. If you get a high flow cat, you're really taking a chance without any fuel compensation. However, if you can keep the boost at 10psi, you should be able to manage w/o an ecu.

Get the Bonez

You won't require an upgraded ECU, however it's not a bad idea. Watch your boost as the hi-flo cat with an intake may cause you to get some boost spikes.

As for which hi-flo, I run the Bonez but it's very expensive. I've heard good things about Gotham Racing's hi-flo but nothing long-term yet:

We have had all three.
The Pettit CAT plates broke off and failed within 6 months. Replaced it with a pettit and it happened again.
Random Tech CAT clogged in one year.
The Bonez CAT has been on for 2 years now and no problem.

Thanks for the input. I am leaning towards the Bonez, but I wanted to get some more opinions before I get it.

Hi flo cat

I bought mine from Gotham Racing. It passed Illinois emmissions with a DP. So far so good. Had for a year.

The high-flow give you any considerable gains in power from the "butt dyno". I've been eyeing Gotham Racing's unit for awhile now and I was wondering how its held up over the course of the year you've had it on your car.
