It's called making a financially responsible decision for where I'm at in life right now. I assessed, and realized I was still $10k short of finishing the car, hadn't had time to work on it for over a year, and in the end - would still end up with a car that was illegal on the road, and not enough money to fund 1) a trailer to tow it to the track, and 2) a car to tow the trailer with.
The Lotus (of all things), was more practical because 1) I could drive it to the track legally 2)great resale value 3)cheaper to maintain! 4)take a nearly interest free loan on it for this next year to help partially fund my grossly overexpensive wedding coming up next summer.
I'm partially flattered by some of the "haterade" because it meant people loved the build so much. But honestly now, it was 6 yrs of my time, money, and dedication to build it - believe me, it was more heartbreaking for me to sell it, than it is for someone who's never seen my car to hear that its gone. But it was sold for the greater good. A girl only gets married once (one would hope!), but an RX7 build can always be done again.
And it's a wonderful honor that I was given a chance to immortalize the car with a magazine spread... a way to remember what had been built and created at one point in time of my life.
I count myself very fortunate to have had a problem like this, and to have come up with a solution as I had. First world problems are something I'm very grateful to have and enjoy.

As for the award, it just seems strange to have a car praised and honored that doesn't exist any more. Not because of some accident but because the owner shut it down. It feels like honoring a MLB slugger for his prior year's big numbers, even though he has since been found on steroids and currently banned for life.
Having said that, this was always a great car and yours was an epic build. So yes, the haterade tastes terrible
Hope to see you with another FD in the future and good luck with the wedding.

I was at Pepboys the other day, saw this issue and just HAD to buy it. I remember the car being up for sale sometime earlier, never knew it was sold however. I followed your build for quite sometime, being an inspiration to my never ending project. Glad you made it to a magazine feature, well deserved, Carol
