Be Careful with eBay RX-8 starters
Be Careful with eBay RX-8 starters
Hello everyone,
Just letting you know to be careful with the eBay ad that has the rx-8 starter inside a rx-7 housing. The unit itself is just machined down but it's still 5-6CM too short. Depending on your flywheel, you may be wearing away at the starter gears. The unit itself is very nice and swapping over the rx-7 housing is very easy.
From top, eBay machined housing on the left, OEM starter, eBay machined housing on the right. Bottom right, how the OEM gear is suppose to look with the 90 degree cut on the gear. Bottom left after use, it wore away due to it slipping off the flywheel.

Your thread title should read " be careful buying anything electronic from eBay " . I especially stay away from starters and alternators seeing that they can be bad from the manufacturer and you still get stuck paying for shipping on a exchange under warranty (if you have one) . Cheaper is always going to cost you more. Shop local, support a local business, get a warranty that isn't going to cost you it's worth spend the couple extra dollars . And use both hands when flipping the bird at junky parts .
