i really dont know much about the carbon fiber hoods, is this decision based on style or weight? because the stock hood on an FD is very lightweight anyways....

The biggest advantage I can see from getting a CF hood is getting one with vents. If weight savings is the only goal there are better ways to dump those few pounds with $700.

Try going to and see what they have to offer. They have a good bodykit selection, and a few hoods.

Stay the **** away from VIS!!!

I bought one of their kits for my old S13.. It was so shitty I can't even begin to tell you!!
I heard their hoods fit like **** too, like... the wiper cowl won't line up with the fenders.

Go with Rotary extreme, Mazdaspeed, Scoot replica, Just NOT VIS!!!

I'm interested in getting the scoot hood. But is it bad to buy "replicas"?

Not from rotary extreme. The scoot hood they produce is better quality than the original, IMO. RX7store has the R.E. replica. Beware, it'll take probably a week to get the fiberglass version, and a lot longer for the carbon fiber version.. the CF is special order only.

Worth the cash, IMO, That's the route I'm going.

For the rice factor:

Replicas are not rice. unless they're cheap. The R.E. hood is definetly not rice. It's better than the original. Besides, we play too much into branding nowadays... I figure, if it's the same product, less cost, and equal or better quality, you'd be stupid to get the original just for a brand name.

I have Rotary Extreme's Knight Sports carbon fiber version. Fit is excellent and the surface is mirror-like and just about perfect. The design works well too.

That hood looks good, but I think the best place for vents would be more toward the back.

Thanks Spoolin...

I like our replica hoods so much I bought one and have it on my car. Those of you at Sevenstock can check it out. Also the pictures of the CF hood on Attila's car aren't actually his hood, as he hasn't enough $ together yet to buy one, maybe we should charge more, prolly not though. He just borrowed a hood for showing people as he will again for sevenstock... Hope to see you guys there. If you want more info on the hoods check out the group buy section, or send an e-mail to Attila.
Also on the "replica" note, some people find it necessary to have a known brand name with their products, but quality wise some replicas, (ours and rotaryextreme's) are as good as the original, and some have said better. Check it out for yourself.

That was probably from the "origina" copy which someone was selling some time back, not Atilla's hoods. I had one of those replicas and it was "ok" but it's surface finish left much to be desired.

I doubt it was one ofours...

None of the people who have one of our hoods have had any major problems, at least that they've told us about. We actually made the hoods because we bought another replica, and it left a lot to be desired... S
