Car won't start
Hello ladies and gents; I'm working on a 94 FD, it's basically stock minus exhaust.
I had just fixed a few things in it, and on the way home the car completely lost power and died on the middle of the freeway. Luckily I got it pulled over to the side. When I tried to crank it over, it seemed like it was almost going to catch, but never did. I tried both feathering the throttle and WOT to clear it out if it was flooded. Still nothing.
When I pulled the check engine codes (jumped GND and TEN in the diagnostics box) all I got was the knock sensor (which is what I had been fixing.) Ended up getting the car towed back home.
That was yesterday, today I keyed the car on and heard fuel moving through the lines. Cranked and cranked but nothing. I jumped FP and GND in the diagnostics box, cranked the car and it fired right up. Went to the engine bay and noticed the fans were running. This seemed odd to me. Then I pulled the jumper wire and it died. Put the wire back, cranked it and it started right up. Pulled the wire again and it died again. Cranked it with no jumper wire and it wouldn't start.
So, does jumping FP to ground bypass the fuel pump relay? I don't feel like the pump itself is dead, since I can hear fuel moving through the lines. I can't really hear the typical whine of the pump itself, but it is a stock car. Not sure if you can normally.
Then there's the fan too. I don't know where to start with that.
I do know that this wire harness has been hacked. There were quite a few things I had to splice together, and some more that are cut, but it seems to work for the most part.
I also just deleted the pulsation damper. Would freeing this up cause the fuel pump to act differently and then all of a sudden go **** up on itself?
Is there something else that I should be looking for? Could the pump be dead, but jumping the wires bypasses it somehow? Or is it the relay?
I'm on a bit of a time crunch with this, so if I need to order parts I need to do that soon. Thanks for the help.
