Check the clutch master cylinder and/or clutch slave cylinder...they usually will go out around the same time...If it is your problem, then I would change both, even if one seems okay still.

for me it was the clutch fork. i could turn the car off and put it in gear but it would not go in gear while running.

but quick 20,30 min etc drives, everything is fine..

the gears have to move SOME for them to get into gear if they aren't lined up. normally, unless something being broken is the cause all you need to do is let the clutch out on the moving engine and then try again.

you'd be supprised how many people forget this when they start the car with the clutch pressed/hold it for a long time on a stop.

Is this valid for pretty much any given time (not just upon startup?) Because I have a new slave cylinder, new clutch, new bearings, etc...and every now and then (not often tho) I'm waiting at a stop light, and when it turns green, I can't get it into gear. I just let off the clutch, then press it again, and it works. Sometimes it starts to go into gear, but as I let off the clutch, its' as if something has actually kicked the gear outta 1st and back into neutral. Weird...

yep, it's universal, though it seems like most modern syncro's are so finely meshed that they don't need hardly any movement so it really doesn't happen often (thus people don't learn it), but if they start to wear (i would assume) of if you don't have them it's pretty common (most motorcycles for example).

if your car actually pops out of gear you might have a selector problem or something. but in my car i have to make sure and put it "all the way" into 1st, or it will sort of only half engage the syncro's.

particleeffect, gotcha. I remember Rikki told me the synchros on the 7 aren't all that great, and so it can give ya issues goin into first at times...and if it does, just put into second, then into first, and that somehow engages the synchro...it seems to work.

the kicking outta gear thing might be a problem w/ the selector, eh? Don't mind the newbie question...that's part of the tranny itself, right? I guess when my car finally goes to Gotham I'm gonna have them look @ the tranny...

Now that you mention it though, I *think* the kicking it out thing happens only when I shift half-***, ie I don't push 1st ALL the way in, like you mentioned. Cut me some slack...the car's black so it gets hot quick, the ACT HD clutch takes considerable effort, she's notchy as hell at low rpms, and traffic here is simply horrid...so yea, I get sloppy at times
