Car hit and run last night. f&*k.

I came out from the restaurant last night after getting dinner to a guy standing by my car. He asked if this green car was mine, when I said yeah, why?, he told me a work truck had just hit me. The whole rear passenger rear quarter panel, between the wheel and the rear bumper, is trashed. There was no flaws on the car before. I am the second owner, and it was immaculate before. Got dam I', pissed. The poor guy chased the truck, but there was either no plate, or he said it was so dark without the light that he couldn't see it. Why do people do this ****? I wouldn't ever do this to someone else. This world is f'ed.

my luck has been f'd lately. My sister and I got broadsided t-giving day in my Tacoma. I would have normally been in it, but it's still in the shop. Don't like to drive my 66 Ford. Its showroom condition and I really feel like a target in it. It got egged the last time I had it out. I hate people.

I'd go back and see if the restaurant or any nearby stores have camera footage.

yeah, wife mentioned that. problem is there was no info on the truck. no plates, no business name, etc...Even if there was, I'm still stuck either paying for it myself or paying my deduc, because I doubt they had insurance.

You took the word of a stranger that was looking for info in the heat of the moment. Get to the restaurant immediately since security tapes roll over after a set time.
edit: if you catch him and he has insurance, you don't have to pay anything. I've been in 3 no fault accidents and never had to pay any deductible.
Even if he doesn't have insurance you can sue him for the deductible and diminished value of the car.

Depends on your insurance. But you may not have to pay a deductible. My deductible for that type of thing is $0.

I dont want you to worry or regret any past action you did and wished you did something different from what im about to tell you man.

But this is the new fraud. Im not saying this is def the case for you but it sure sounds like it.

People who are now involved in a hit and run ARE the ones who play "good samaritan" pretending to whoever is watching that you are resolving with the victim that you just hit their car.

Think about it. Ill use your story just so it makes sense.

Guy who told you some truck hit your car, IS THE ONE who hit your car.

That way others who are watching the situation, see the guy talking to you, they probably think "o he's telling the owner he hit the car" but in your eyes, the dude is coming up to you telling you someone ELSE hit it.

Think further. Dude said a truck hit your car. That means he got his info through reality. He didnt bother getting some sort of info about the truck??

Suspects are now doing this when "caught in the act" so to say.

1QWIK7, you are sooo right! I was with a friend and same thing happened to him, come out of restaurant and some guy comes up to us saying someone hit the car and took off...

so we starting asking him about it ... but then, just as the guy was about to leave, some lady comes over and starts bauking at the guy talking to us saying "you better have insurance cause that looks like an expensive car" ... literally.. it took us like 5 mins to figure out the guy we were talking to was the one who hit the car.

Once the police showed up, he changed his story so fast, saying, "I was telling them... " but the cop didn't belive him. I was floored, I couldnt even imagine the gall some people have.

good luck getting your car fixed got any pics of your Ford?

+1K%
The minute I read the OP story, I said the informant is the guy who hit the car.
It makes perfect sense, so OP you have been played.
He provided no markings, color, type, make or model on the truck???
Any description of the driver???
At what point he stop following the truck on the road???
Was the truck a patron or delivering goods???
Why not run into the restaurant to advise anyone as soon as it happen???
Was this informant eating alone, if not where was the rest of his party???
How long did this take him and why not have called the Police while in the chase???
This informant sounds just too fishy to trust his story.
Sorry OP.

Yup, sounds fishy. The dude supposedly waited around to tell you what happened, but had absolutely no concrete info to share. Did you see him leave in his car by any chance?

I don't buy an unmarked, un-plated truck. That would would get pulled over and impounded in two seconds. I'd check back to see if there was any security footage.

Agreed, three questions need asked in this situation, #1 Can I get your info in case the insurance company asks any questions and need confirmation it was a hit and run? #2 Can you stick around until the police arrive? #3 What are you driving, can I see your car?

If he doesn't make good on any of these questions, stick to him like glue while calling the police. If he is honest then he will understand the questions and help as much as he can.

It was my first thought when I got out there, but this guy was with his wife, they were in a little blue civic which in no way could have or did cause the damage on my car. They left while I was still standing there taking pictures and making a couple of phone calls. Their civic wasn't scratched, dinged, busted, hell even as tall anywhere as high as the damage goes on the quarter. Their description of the truck was spot on, but really how many white chevy work trucks with a headache rack and ladder racks you think there are in Albuquerque, New Mexico? I'll see 20 trucks just like that on my 8 mile drive home from work tonight. Believe me, I checked dude out to see if he did it first thing.

Called insurance today. Deduc comes out of my pocket since it was a hit and run. The restaurant is being super helpful, and is providing the tape to Farmers. I know everyone doubts the no plate thing, but we have so very many illegals here in unregistered work trucks that local law enforcement can't even keep up. Hell, I drove this car around for three weeks not realizing that my plate got stolen, and there's no telling how many cops had been behind me. I finally found out about it (stolen plate) when a cop pulled up next to me at a light and asked why I didn't have one. Look it up. Our uninsured driver rate is the highest in the country. If they're not going to insure it, they can't get it registered. This state sucks.

that was texas. we don't have any armadillos here. not many anyway. I've lived here all my 30 years and have never seen one. but yeah, this state sucks.

Anyhow, back on topic, I took it to my friends shop. He's a custom bike builder and does a lot of work for us here at our Ducati and Triumph shop. www.leadingedgecustoms.com
He was at a bigtime collision center for 22 years. He's going to fix the damage for me for $650, no paint though. I'm going to hold off on the paint for a couple of months and then have the entire car painted. Not too bad, but 650 dollars I could of spent of something else. bummer.

Haha you'd think painting a car yellow would stop people from hitting you. Some douche walked by my BRIGHT YELLOW car got in his truck and reversed so far that his bumper folded my hood in a few spots, cracked my rare front bumper and
fucked up my fenders. You dont know how pissed I was. All because I went got a buddy a bottle of booze for his birthday.

^ One reason why I hate truck/SUV owner, I knew a guy with a big SUV had a tow hook install for now reason, I ask him why he install it as I knew he doesn't tow jack, he said when he back up to another car the tow hook will damage the other car but it won't damage his rear bumper... Lived in the city for about 3 years, and both my MX-6 has a dent on the hood because of that same reason, they all do bumper check with their tow hook because they can't park for crap with their big car.
