Yep, but that's the risk you take when owning a car other people like. Chances are, if someone is going to steal your car, it won't be in front of where you live... More than likely, it would be at a store location or somewhere else away from your home (at work or school)....

The only people that usually come to your house are the repo men.

I agree as well.If someone really wants it theyll get it.
I just think by dissableing the car it would make it harder.Thats all.Its not foolproof.Nothing is.But if say someone gets in and is trying to hotwire the car.It will just stall out.So the guy may just **** off and leave or try and screw the car up.Once again insurance is a wonderfull thing.

This is funny. Just about every thread on here regarding car security ends up like this, and makes this place look like the lounge. When I was installing my alarm and searching the forum, only perhaps 5% of the info was useful to me. Then again, nobody wants to give away their security tricks, and understandably so.

We really need a poll. What's the best method of security?

1: Good insurance
2: Blades
3: Guns
4: Grey Sniper Kitten
5: club
6: alarm
7: park in a garage/between other cars/in a lake
8: Trick question. "Auto security" is an oxymoron. Anyone can steal anything. In fact, don't bother locking your doors at all.

I'm still trying to teach my cat to shoot people near the car, but he keeps aiming at the sea gulls. Until I get that perfected, #1 helps the most.

Back on topic: Go ahead and pull the relay. If you really don't mind swapping it in and out and possibly replacing it due to wearing it out (from the swapping), why not? It might help in *some* cases. I'm not going to bother with that myself, though.

I completely understand that if someone wants it, they are going to take it. I figure if someone DOES steal my car, it'll be really fast, and in broad daylight. I don't take my car out much.. If I do, I don't leave it anywhere silly, so I figured it'd be a quick hotwire or whatever not attracting much attention. I really was just curious if this had been done...

i would be super pissed i if my car was stolen. i still have my truck and i would get a new one. already had 2 attempts on mine they didn't even get the door open but they fucked my drives side lock up broke the lil plastic door and ****. made me mad when i had to get in the pass side door to unlock the car.

i feel safe living in my neighborhood. why would anyone steal my car. its all middle aged rich people who drive corvettes, benzes, porsches and kids with civics, eclipses, and fake lancers... oh yeah and the completely riced out insane looking STOCK rx7 down the street...
the only thing ive ever heard of being stolen around here is bicycles, lawn mowers, and civics with wheels worth more than the car itself.

just get a garage man. i dont have a garage but i keep it on my driveway between my house and my other two cars... theres trees and bushes all over the yard, no where to move...

sounds like your neighborhood has lots of good inventory for a theif. my friend's car was stolen from his driveway in a nice neighborhood such as yours.

Twenty Years aog I lived in a so-so neighborhood. There used to be a woman who parked her 1st gen in the street - usually jammed between two other cars as most cars are parked in the city.

One morning, her wheels and tires had been stollen, so she called a wrecker to come get the car. I watch as the wrecker driver "unparked" the car by placing his winch on the a-arm and dragged the car out of the parking spot by the suspension and onto the flatbed. I never heard such a sound.

Of course he didn't care that he had destroyed the suspension and the disks and neither will most thieves.

If they want your car and it is parked 'tight' they will get it. And I doubt they will care if the suspension, disks, diff or any other parts are killed in the process becase there will still be plenty of other sellable parts left.

I hope I dont get my car stolen, cause I go to a junior college where theres alot of low income housing and stuff and the area is not the greatest.but if some one does, im getting my self a 350z hehe

Thats the thing about human nature. If someone wants something so bad, they will go to any extreme to get it.

That is why I have my car insured for 95,000.00; starting January 1st, 2004.

like blueskaterboy said, you could always move to a good neighborhood, if your neighbors had supercharged Vettes, new BMW's/M3's as well as new Porsches and Benzs parked on the street, who the hell would care or even look twice at a cheap FD?

if it does get stolen, wont the insurnace company only give you blue book valve on the car? or if it is insured some how at that price, cant they just put your case on hold as they do a check for insurance fraud? In all the instances I have seen or dealt with the insurance company, they do not seem to let go of their cash too fast/easily...

the thieves around here dont want to get in trouble, they dont keep the car, they leave it on blocks in a parking lot, they just want the wheels and other ricer accessories... that way only the insurance company loses cuz they ahve to replace that stuff... and its not like my hugeass wheels are gonna fit onto a civic anytime soon...

I am sure they would, if it were a fraud case. Starting in 2004, I can claim this vehicle as an antique. Therefore, setting any specific value to this car as needed. With all the work, and what-not, 95,000 was the number I came up with.

If someone stole it, they would investigate as any insurance company would. But in the end, I would get paid.

This is exactly what I did to my car :

Took out the relay at night, and when I get ready to go to work in the morning.... nada, car is gone...
I didn't even heard it started during the night(car is very loud with 4" HKS Ti) and it was parked about 40-50 ft from where I slept.

If they really wanted your car, they'll take it. The best way to protect your car ? Buy a house, good insurance...

My previous post was meant to be a bit sarcastic. As in: we're beating a dead horse by arguing over what will stop a thief. And, I'm sorry if I sparked a thread hijacking! But I'll feed the wheel anyway...

But on the insurance issue, AAA has given a friend of mine several thousand $'s more than KBB for a FD he wrecked less than a month from when he purchased it. The body shop gave an appraisal. The car was in great shape, and the accident involved a blown tire / debris on the road -- which probably made a difference on the payoff.

State Farm, however, royally screwed my family on a minivan that was stolen and joyrided. It was in perfect mechanical shape with some minor cosmetic wear, and only a few years old at the time. We got 50% kbb. We took the loss, told them go go to hell, and have been on AAA ever since.

Oh yeah I understand perfectly, again I'm just sharing my experience. Taking out the relay may stop the occasional and mall parking lot thieves. But it wouldn't stop them to follow you to your apartment and steal your car with a flatbed in the dead of the night. That's a lesson I hardly able to swallow right now, because my neighborhood is considered very safe and there are cops patrolling it at random times.

Oh well, take care people. Buy LoJack, get a house, do something, trust me I used to think that I'd never be the guy whose car was stolen... until recently.
