I noticed on my K&N panel, that it wasn't necessarily sagging, but the side towards the driver side of the car was bent inwards...I was displeased with the fitment.

As for sucking up unfiltered air...the "Mazda mystery hose" would seem to allow that to happen as well...unless there's a check valve in there? I saw some spring clamps in the middle of it, but if not...that thing could theoretically suck anything under the stock box and bypass the filter.

nah, that mystery hose does have a check valve (actually, not the hose, but the nipple).
