can you beat BPU supra turbo?
I am new to the forum, my single turbo Rex7 friend introduced me here. I have a 94 BPU supra 6 speed, and I have never ran with a 7...at least not a healthy one on the street. my go fast modes are:
HKS FMIC
HKS EZ
HKS AFR
DP
Greddy exhasut
Cold intake
what modes would the 7 need to beat a BPU supra with stock twin turbos? I know Rex are fast cuz its light weight...and I am actually thinking of getting a one to play around with.
thanx!

Yes
A RX-7 will need to be BPU.
Intake, DP, Cat back, Fuel/boost computer.
+Intercooler
+Midpipe
I think that a BPU FD is equal to a BPU Supra.

Most of the cars are pimped out Tiburons, but some of the turbocharged cars are pretty strong. The Koreans have come a LONG way in the last 4 years. There are two drag only turbo conversion Tiburons putting down over 500 RWHP... one upto 580 RWHP. (Oops, I meant FWHP)
My turbo spools up so quickly, I can use my power band almost from any light.... all I need is a little room. I just have to watch out for cars not expecting me to close the gap so quickly. I also drag race over here.
In case you are going to ask... there are no serious Supras here. Most guys who want to spend that kind of money run Skylines.

I would think that a 7 with a cat back, ecu, downpipe, and boost controller would take a BPU Supra. I have never raced one of those cars, but maybe I will see one in Michigan someday. They aren't very common around here.

Uh OH! Not yet another BPU Supra vs BPU RX-7 flame thread I hope~
Well, the general rule of thumb is that a BPU RX-7 and BPU Supra are gonna be close, in all fairness it can go either way. However, the ones running 14psi of boost, are usually putting down anywhere from 350-380rwhp...which tends to puts things in the RX-7s favor.
I've raced 2 BPU Supras, 3 BPU+ Supras, and 1 APU (Single) Supra....never lost to one yet =)
well except the APU...he didn't want to race....good thing for me, I know I would've got spanked, but u gotta respect those Singles out there, FD or MKIV.

I have much respect for Supras, but these days have lost all respect for Corevette C5/Z06 owners. I can't understand why it seems like 100% of their owners are so damn cocky..like they look at Japanese cars as total POS. The trademark grin, and smirk, or the classic girlfriend/boyfriend combo dual laugh!
Hhaha....I know it's not fair to stereotype, but just came across yet *another* C5 owner who did the exact same thing last night. Guy kept tailgating me, wanted so bad to put him on my lap and spank him hard, but never got a chance...traffic with him in front, no road! Yet another C5 owner now, who thinks Japanese turbos cars are **slow**

I agree with you on the C5/Z06 owners, it seems like when we line up for a race they always try to let me jump first, and I caught several of them laughing and waving at me. of course its a different soty after I kick they're *** cuz they just exit quickly to avoid further humiliation
RX-7 bpu is fast that I know, I wish I can find one to race here in the Bay Area...I thought there is this "7 Heaven" in Bayarea with more than 100members?

BPU Supras are very fast and I'd say you would need full exhaust, intake, ECU, and IC to beat out a BPU - they run usually 12.3-12.9. A BPU+ you would need more boost (13-14 lbs) or a streetport at 12 lbs. To hang with a BPU++ you would definitely need a streetport, 15 lbs of boost, upgraded fuel system, and a lightened flywheel would help. Now you're dipping into the mid-low 11's

bpu supras
Read my story "bpu supras" in the kill section. They are very quick and need to be given some respect. I raced 2 the other night both bpu's, one auto and one manual. All races were very close. The auto was a bpu but he said he was running 18-20 psi??? I do not know much about supras but he was quicker than the manual one. I raced the 6spd one later and slowly, slowly walked away from him. Like in the middle of 4th gear I was maybe 2 cars ahead! But the auto was harder because he left me out of the hole and I had to play catch up and at about 1/8th mile mark I was only 1/2 car ahead.
93vr r-1
Full exhaust (no cats)
pettit intake
pettit cool charge II intercooler
Greedy Profec B
HKS F-con
ACT clutch
Light flywheel
short shifter
big fuel pump
Konis w/ Eibach springs
7.80 in the 1/8th on DOT tires!

You know I have the same problem, but opposite as you, I can never get a supra to race me. I think I raced one like a while back, cause I followed this white supra onto the freeway late at night and he flashed his hazards at me, and I floored it and went after him, and killed him. However, I think that could have been a non turbo one, cause I pretty much wasted him. Besides that I rarely get raced on or get a chance to race, don't know why. Maybe I need to instigate one or something, but I don't really like to, not my stlye. Anyways, I've got pretty much every single bolt on on my 7, and running an EFI system, with 14 psi of boost on J-spec sequnital turbos (putting down 336 lbs of torque, but haven't figured out my HP yet). Oh by the way I don't want to sound like an idiot, but I always hear people use "BPU" with modded Supras and 7's, but I really don't know what it stands for, anyone want to enlighten me? Thanks and Sorry.

sounds like BPU RX7 and Supra will be a intersting run and also depend on the condition of the car and drivers skill. I have heard so many different stories of BPU RX7 killed and BPU supra killed by 7.
BPU stands for basic performance upgrade. BPU on a supra has following modes:
DP, exhaust, intake, Boost cut control, boost controler.
when its got the + or ++ sign, its got fuel control, cam gear, differential, FMIC, clutch etc...

BPU++
Well I just figured a BPU was all the basics: full exhaust, intake, intercooler, cam gears, boost control, fuel cut, etc...
That changes things because my friends 6spd is a bpu++(add cam gears and front mount intercooler) and I had a easier time beating him than the automatic bpu I raced. The auto just came out of the hole on me bad..
Have any of you heard of the supra guys pluging or doing somthing to there waste gates so they can run 18-22psi of boost??? It sounds crazy to me but that is what the guy who owned the automatic bpu told me he had done. And he did beat the other bpu++

its called the VSV (vacuum sensor valve) mode. it basically disable the opening of wastegate so the turbo will boost like mad. not a good mode, but its free, every turbo car can do it.
I dont think a good healthy supra running 18psi will be easy target here, BPU++ doesnt really mean anything cuz Cam and FMIC dont add up that much power, most 10hp dyno proven.
so I woulnd tbe suprised if a BPU supra can kick a BPU++ supras ***, it all depends on the condition of the car. some owners dont even know if they have booost leak or low engine compression, so they get beat. others who take care of the car will have a good 380WRHP+ BPU.

But imagine those rx-7s though that are running good. A strong BPU rx-7 running 360-380rwhp, at 700lbs less than a Supra=good times
But anyhow, I'm only focussed on Corvette C5s/Z06s right now...

I race with a a friend of mine and he has a BPU supra here are his mods:
TRD catback
dp and mp
intake
50 shot NOS
SAFC and AVCR boost to 16psi
and some HKS electronics
He can never hang with me!
I think that basic bolts on the 3rd gen like intake,mp, dp etc... is a good race for BPU supras. But I am running the greddy T-78 and he has no chance.

Basically both cars are pretty comparable and you'd prob have to match the mods.
The best way to tell is you let up know what 1/4 et you run and I can tell you what mods the 7 would need to run or beat yours. I'm not familiar enought with the Supra to know what you should be running.
A healthy bone stock 7 with intake, full exhaust, fuel computer at 12.5psi of boost will run low 12's......add a IC and turn the boost up to 14 and you'll be high 11's......upgrade the fuel injectors and pump and you can turn the boost as high as 16 on the stock twins and you'll be running mid/low 11's

Howdy Crash -
I stumbled over from the SupraForums (someone asked about an RX forums) and of course had to take a peek in the kills section.
*BUT* the reason I registered was _just_ to post and tell you what an incredible job you've done on your RX. The rear fender treatment is simply awesome! I'm a bit of a closet RX7 fan - actually considered one as my "big project" vs. the Supra. Since I was going to spend a *significant* amount of $$$, I'm sure I could have built a bullet-proof motor.
At any rate, great job - I can appreciate a "comprehensive upgrade" (tm: JM) - It took about 6-7 months to complete my Supra but that included paint, body, turbo (and supporting cast), wheels (custom polished), rollbar, suspension, brakes, audio, whew! (You-name-it!)
