Can ungrounded wire cause the odometer not to work

Hello
So I have a unusual question lol so I have been doing the auto to manual swap on my fd and testing everything out as far as electrical goes ,before I get the engine in the car , I noticed my odometer isn't working anymore. I would like to add that it did work before the engine was pulled out and even tried a second one I have for spare ( I was told it also worked when previous owner pulled It out his parts car . I wanted to see if there is anything I should check ? Thanks

I do believe the odometer does NOT work with the engine out. The ground is through the ring terminal that mounts near the coils under the UIM

I don't remember if it was just the milage or the whole cluster stoped working on me for a min while doing a fpd removal but once I got all the grounds hooked back up came right back to life

Just wanted to confirm that the odometer does NOT work if the ring terminal ground near the coils is not attached. When I got my car it was all apart and no odometer. When I reinstalled everything, the odometer started working.

Its been a while, is it possible to get to this ground without taking the uim off just the elbow and tb?

My tack, speedo and odometer aren't working but the rest does. I can see the rpms on the pfc commander

I can't say for sure as my car was on its 4th engine when I got it and the UIM was already off. The logical place for the ground, and where I placed it was under the coils. Not sure if you can access with the coils in place.

Also, to consider, are all the plugs plugged up near the computer? That's where the engine harness connects to the dash harness for this ground.
