Can someone point me to a crash coarse on 93+ rx7's

hey everyone, been considering purchasing a 93-94 rx7 since they dont cost that much, and looking to step up in the food chain (have a 95 talon TSi awd right now). I kind of want a 98+ trans am, but to much money, and id kinda rather have an import.

anyway ive been trying to search and look around these forums to learn as much as possible before I further decide on purchasing one of these, so does anyone know any sites or things that can help me out? the kind of info im looking for comes down to things like...

What does the FD and CYM mean on these? I see it alot but I cant find definitions.

Is one of the 93-95's better then any of the others?

What is the general stock (completely) time of a decent driver? from what I see in the timeslip section id guess mid-high 13's, if im right thats pretty good. and what about if you just install a MBC?

How reliable are these rotary engines at high horsepower?

How come everyone (not on this board) is trying to tell me you cant really measure rotary horsepower compared to other engines.

what all is involved in upgrading these? from what I can gather, it seems like a big turbo, lots of cooling and porting, and perfect tuning seem to be key, since there are no pistons or anything to replace.

What all is involved in an engine rebuild?

Should I try to find a rolling chassy or something with a million miles and replace the engine (they arent to expensive to me) or can I build off what it comes with?

whats with 20b engines?

How good are the transmissions?

any help greatly appreciated guys, id really like to get into these cars and they look promising. Sorry if some of these have been asked a million times....I hate forum nubs too, but im having a hard time finding answers (Think I need to learn how to search better) and I want some solid answer, and im getting pretty burnt out reading my butt off.

thanks.

competition yellow mica (only 350 made)

R1 or an R2 cloth interior

high 13's to mid 14's

How reliable are these rotary engines at high horsepower?

your car will treat you how you treat it, if you have the money to make it fast, make sure you have enough to keep it fast

How come everyone (not on this board) is trying to tell me you cant really measure rotary horsepower compared to other engines.

Every rotary cycle equals out to 2 piston cycles I.E 1.3L rotary is equal to a 2.6 6 cyl.

what all is involved in upgrading these? from what I can gather, it seems like a big turbo, lots of cooling and porting, and perfect tuning seem to be key, since there are no pistons or anything to replace.

Single turbo

What all is involved in an engine rebuild?

New seals

Should I try to find a rolling chassy or something with a million miles and replace the engine (they arent to expensive to me) or can I build off what it comes with?

If you are gonna heavily mod it your best bet is to rebuild the engine no matter how many miles and start fresh

whats with 20b engines?

13B-REW= 2 rotors 1.3 L 20B=3 Rotors 2.0 L

How good are the transmissions?

5th gear syncros tend to go before the rest of the tranny, otherwise they are good

I take it you didn't find the newbie (or "nub", hehe) sticky yet:

That should answer alot of those questions. It's alot to read, but its well worth reading before you buy anything.

This one really reads like a crash course:

http://www.epinions.com/content_92709097092

Once you've read through those, you'll have enough background to do some searches through the archives here about your new questions.
Above all others:

followed closely by:

In case anyone is wondering, yes I get a kickback for people reading that epinions review, but it's really, really small. Like $1.50 for having 1500 people read it

that was a good epinions review.

I beleive I want one of these cars now. to bad ill probably have to get a 93 and hope it has good paint. Did they make it in blue? or is that all repainted blue...because they look nice. Now to decide if id want a chassy or a full working car.....but I think I need to wait and read more before I jump into things, and drive on of coarse.

I think you need to edit it again.

I believe any 3rd-5th shift will grind, at the wrong RPMs. I think you meant
4th-5th.

Yeah, I think that's more accurate. Fixed.

Thanks for reading it.
