it's the circled one. If anyone knows, i'll apreciate it if someone can also provide me with a mazda part number. I broke a nipple off it trying to take it out.

i have one more question...what adverse effects does this have towards my car without the catch tank hose on there?

thanks!

That's not a check valve, it's the Purge Control Solenoid. I don't know what that system does, but I think it's part of the PCV system.

What you have circled is the purge control solenoid, not a check valve. THe word check valve is there pointing at the two check valves below the solenoid. I think you might have a vacuum leak if you dont hook up the catch tank or at least cap it off. I never heard of anyone saying it's okay to get rid of the purge control so i think that you should get a new solenoid as soon as posible.

That solenoid is connected to the charcoal canister. All it does is open to allow the fumes into the intake manifold to be burned. It won't hurt the car to disable it, but plug the hose that goes to the intake manifold to prevent a vacuum leak. Leave the other hose open and your charcoal canister will just vent into the air. Nobody but the rabid tree huggers will care. Leave the electrical connection to the solenoid on so as not to get a "check engine" light.

This one is slightly different than the one posted above, but it's the same idea. Copy and paste it into a MS Word doc and it prints nicely in color.
