What's the different about the Non-Cal ECU and Cal ECU ?

This is just a guess as I live on the right coast but Im guessing that with Californias strick emisions. The ecu probably compensates for this by adding more air to the exhaust or leans the mix? Us here in the East run mid pipes without fear a $50 bill goes along way at the emissions test station.

There are probably more differences, but I think the CA ECU pays attention to the EGR switch position. Non-CA cars do not have a sensor for this item, so the ECU isn't expecting a signal from it. That may vary by year, too.
