Can anyone confirm/dispell this for me (regarding 3mm apex seals and idle)

Greetings. I'm not new to RX7's or the FD. I owned one back in early 1997 before there was a lot of online tech support like here at rx7club. Anyway, I'm again looking at another FD, and have checked out a few. I'm curious about rebuilt motors and the apex seals. I've searched and looked through the archives and wasn't coming up with a definitive answer.

I checked out a car with a rebuilt motor. Started it up and noticed the idle was "lumpy". The owner stated the motor was recently rebuilt with 3mm apex seals and said that was why the idle was "lumpy". Idle seemed to be normal at just below 1000 rpm.

Can anyone confirm or dispel the lumpy idle theory regarding the 3mm apex seals? The rebuilt engine has enough miles for a proper break in. Thanks for any help. Sorry for the new-b-ish question. If there's another thread like this, please link me so I can read up on it.

3mm seals shouldn't cause a lumpy idle, but if the engine is streetported, that could be the cause. IMO the stock motor in fine condition idles a tad lumpy anyway.

What were the vacuum readings at idle?

i have a stock motor with only 33k on it right now. its in very good condition and it is a "bit" lumpy at idle, not horrible but if you sit still you can feel it.

does really help you zmarko, but just confirming what rynberg said.

you shouldnt be able to "feel" that the car has 3mm in it , and its not supposed to afect idle either

Apex Seals have nothing to do with Idle... Porting maybe, but there was another discussion not long ago, about street porting and lumpy idle... in my humble oppinion that's bad tuning...

OK, thanks guys. For the record, the boost gauge in the car only read boost, didn't have Vacuum on there (can't figure out why they make those gauges anyway), so I couldn't read the vaccuum. Thanks for the help. If anyone else has any info about this, feel free to respond.
