Can the 99spec bumper be put on w/o the rebar?

Do I have to purchase the rebar to put on the 99spec bumper for my 94 FD? What are my pros and cons? Thanks

you can modify the stocker, basically the lights on the new bumper (turn signals) dont' quite fit with the holes on the rebar. You have to cut rebar in order for lights to fit.

This is from my observation of the stock rebar and the Pettit front, i haven't tried to actually mount the urethane one, but i know for a fact that the lights dont' line up.

Is cutting the rebar a major job? or pretty easy? I don't want to spend over $300 for a stupid rebar. Would there be no fitment issues when I modify the stock rebar? Thanks

nobody buys the 99 spec one I don't think
it's very very simple the old turn lamps don't look like the new ones right? well the rebar has a hole in it for the backing of the turn lamps to fit into so they can be held into the bumper and go far enough back not to be sticking out of the bumper. All you do is cut the hole out bigger in the shape of the back of the new turn lamps.

wish I still had that pic from slopoke but im sure he'll send it to you and then you'll get it.

btw if you didn't purchase the turn lamps yet canman6969 on the forum can get you the best price. add him to your buddy list and then email him.

I've dealt with these people and I feel like I got the best deal and the best product.

nice find with the 94 I think all the 93 guys look up to 94s and 95s I know I do.

Also one quick question.
Does the bumper align right with the modification?
Does it hold on nice and strong?
Thanks

yup it aligns perfect...if your turn lamps don't fit then you just take the bumper off and cut some more out of the rebar.
The fit is very tight with the 99 spec bumper
so yes it's on there strong and def supported well.

Decade bump... Has anyone encountered sagging issues from all those years using a 93 rebar with 99 OEM bumper? I'm deciding if it's worth spending the extra $$ for it. Would I have to trim the 99 rebar to fit a Greddy Vmount?

Zero sagging issues. Just open up the combo lights holes for the 99 lights in the 93 rebar.

However, if you plan to run oem r1 oil coolers with the proper ducting, you'll need to trim the rebar some more.

At a certain point it's definitely worthwhile to get the proper 99 rebar, especially with the OEM 99 airguide.

My old VR R1 ran the oem 93 rebar for many years as seen in this feature, at this point I'd been rocking the setup for 5-6 years. Check the pics, bumper looks good as new

Thanks, that's exactly the answer I was looking for (plus more). Since I'm running the dual R1 oil coolers and the Greddy Vmount, I don't think I'll see a need for the airguide (didn't know that existed until you mentioned it), or I will make my own "ghetto aluminum airguide".

See below my post at my signature. No rebar, no issues

Although, I sometimes wish I was using one on this next build, in case of minor fender bender its probably worth it

It is definitely not needed as other are others but helpful if you want 99 spec items such as foglights and air guides and such. I have one I may sell soon but its got the usual cracking near the metal mounting points like almost all the used ones usually for sale. Doesn't affect mounting much since the metal backing is still in tact. If you are interested let me know
