Looking for a video camera and mount for autocross use any suggestions? Inexpensive would be nice. I would like to mount it to the sunroof, passenger sunvisor, or passenger seat.

but with the first one, your kinda limited to where you can mount the camera..im going to purchase one of the suction cup mounts and try it out and see how i like it

 

If you are going to do the in car/out car video thing make it easy on yourself. Buy a bullet cam setup and keep your "expensive" camcorder somewhere safe inside the car. The bullet cams are lightweight and can be stuck virtually anywhere on the car, even the side of your helmet if you like and have the right suction cup. I've used the Chasecam bullet cam setup for a few years now on the track with fantastic results. I believe its the first package listed here:

I used some aluminum channel I had laying around the shop and made a nifty one that mounted on the stock rear strut bar. Placed some neoprene around the strut bar to keep it from marking up the plastic cover. Mounted my old camcorder on it and worked great!
Price - free! If I would of had to buy the material would have cost less than $20. If interested, I can post a photo when I get home.

It's a great piece and I prefer the in-car over the driver's shoulder perspective anyway.

already got one Kyle, and it works great....cant beat the price....just waiting on the summer so I can take some video...

 

Here ya go. I realize it looks getto, but it worked really well. To move it up or down, I just tighten one wingnut more than the other. No noticable vibration on the video. I did discover that if you try to focus out too far in front of the car, it becomes a good recipe for car sickness by just watching the video.
Alum. channel is 2" od and about 1 5/8 id, which fit the strut bar perfectly with a little neoprene behind it.

That looks simple enough and easy enough to jsut go out and try. I think I am going to give a shot and if I am not happy then order a expensive one. It's cheap enough to just give a try.
