camaro killed me, torque? daily driven HP?, power window

lastnite, i got spanked by a camaro(actually its my cuzin that's drivin), dont know what year the camaro is, dont really know a lot about that car, but neways yup he whooped me, my car has only 275hp i dont know what camaros hav, so far this is my only loss since i've bought my 7. whats up with the torque anyways? what and how does it affect your car? my car has 275hp, whats my torque?

and please help me find a driverside power window controller, mine is busted, need the controller. thanks

oh before i forget, my car is daily driven, whats the best HP to have on a daily driven RX7? (and ofcourse i still want to whoop some @ss da same time ya know!!)

Um, what kind of Camaro, what kind of mods, you say your 7 has 275 hp, is that rwhp or an estimate? There are many, many fast F bodies (read Camaro/Firebird) around, the LT1 and LS1 motors are very strong and can make a ton of hp and torque. Thats why you see FDs with them swapped in place of the 13brew. Well, torque is measured on the dyno (in foot pounds), using this number horsepower can be calculated. Basically torque is a force that twists something, kinda hard to explain without diagrams, look up some basic physics, you'll learn a lot. The equation is something like: Horsepower=(Torque x RPM)/5252, if I recall correctly. If you really want to know why you lost, have your car dynoed, take it to a track (to see what you run), and find out more regarding your cousin's car. Bottom line: he was faster. Perhaps your car wasn't running right, you drove poorly, or very likely his car is just faster then yours. Sorry, thats life. Josh

and the best HP for a daily driven 7 would be the highest number possible with no lag, without blowing the thing up, and still getting traction

i think under 350 hp is good for beating most car you'll see of the streets and still have some kind of gas mil.

what do you have done to your car? I smoked a z28 and beat an SS by 2 car lengths. The SS had and intake and exhaust too. I have a DP,MP intake, and PFS. If you didnt beat a z28, you cant drive.

very interesting. . . . . . I think he is also looking for the driver side window switch. . . . .

Try to call out of state dealer, especially east coast. Its much cheaper than any dealer in California.

Indeed. Don't underestimate a Z28, or Trans Am for that matter, both cars can be killers with very little $ invested. I have a friend with a 98 T/A WS6 (320 HP stock). He bolted on a cat-back, put in a K&N, chip, and a 150 shot and he was estimating over 550hp at the crank. All for under 2 grand. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he would run very low 11's spraying the juice.

true, z28s can make some serious HP & Torque with very few mods, especially the LT1 and LS1 models. Older models were more choked down.

just kind of a quick and simple way of thinking about torque and HP.

torque is what gets you off the line, hp is what carries you across the finish line.

like i said that is a VERY simple and naive way of thinking about it.

HP is dependant on torque and rpm. the reason that rx7s can get such high HP is cuz they rev so high. we have relatively low torque.

If your car indeed has spun 275 at a dyno and the cowmaro was only modestly modded, you should have more power per pound...IF your car is healthy. Are you making full boost?

Also you never detailed how exactly he beat you. Is this in an autocross? ....wink. In a straight line from dead stop? Exiting the turns on a curvy road?

Apparently your not very knowledgeable when it comes to LS1s. Case in point, my friends bone stock auto Z28 runs low 13s at 106-107 all day long at the track.

sorry about the less detail,
ok we were side to side on the freeway going 60mph, my cuzin downshifted to 3rd floored it then 4th, ofcourse we got ahead about half a car lenght so we thought we had him, but when we got to 5th, the camaro started to fly and left us eating dust (he's about 1 1/2 car ahead when he hit the brakes). i told my cuzin that he should have went to 4th gear instead of 3rd. well thats about it.

275hp is what the owner told me when i bought it from him.

mods are:

Greddy elbow & FMIC
air filters
koyo radiator
3 1/2 exaust kit
blitz BOV
tien sus
17" volkracing
running on stock boost

i want 350hp because i read it somewhere that having 400hp daily driven is very hard because of too mcuh power

im still learning about 7s. just bought it 4 months ago.

sounds more like a case of a bad driver to me . you could get beatin by a stock honda civic if you drive badly enough. just kidding. an LT1 z28 can easily be in the vicinity of 400HP with minor mods, they are not that much heavier (400lbs or so) and have a hell of a lot more torque AND a wider powerband.

you should have enough power with those mods to walk a stock camaro pretty easily. Even with just a couple mods you should be able to beat him.

Wait a second!!!! you got into 5th gear in this race??? Maybe you shifted wayyyyy tooo early. I hope you were doing about 135 when you shifted. Please tell us more about the race. It sounds like he shifted into 5th too early.

ye, shifting early might be the case (i wasn't lookin if my cuzin was redlining or what, just watching the camaro run. it was fun tho.....well, lesson learned.

XSTransAM: so u mean i need to have a computer (PFC?) to avoid KABOOM? geeez. im glad u told me.

i cannot tell if the camaro is stock or not, all i know is i need to get more power and maybe driving lessons (^_^).

i seem to have no problem beating other cars like integras, spyders, mustangs, eclipse, i beat one transAm but it might be an old one so its not that fast.
i tried to race a porsche but he just won't race, tried to catch a car chase...
seriously let me tell you the story about this chase:
it happened the same night i got whooped by that camaro, on the way home i saw this truck stopped by a cop then suddenly he peeledout and tookoff, the chase began, i saw it happened so i was like ' dude that truck took off!! lets chase em' so my cuzin tried to catch up, heheeh we were catchin up and i was gonna roll my window down and ask the cop if he needs help, and then catch up with the truck and tell him to hurry up coz cop chasing him, but he took the next exit (what a nutcase), at the end of the exit is a red light then after that all i remember seeing is a 10 wheeler heading his way. i dont know if they crashed or whatever, but watching a chase is cool.

neways, i was going to get a boost controller next but since im scared of KABOOM then i guess ima get a computer instead (-_-).

another thing, was that a bright idea to shift down to 3rd? just wondering if he didn't and went for 4th instead, we might have a chance to atleast keep up (maybe).

if im on 5th running 3000rpm or lower i shift to 4th, but if higher than 3krpm then i dont. what do you guys do?
