Ray's on his trip. have a small leak at the evaporator. John at Malloy cited two part numbers FD04-61J10 for $433 or FD01-61J10 option for $153 Club price. Does anyone know the application difference?

Car's a 93 used R12 (converted to R134) and has a nippodense evaporator.

 

First off, are you talking about the condensor - the part that's up front by the radiator, or the evaporator, which is under the dash?

There are 2 different AC systems, the MANA and Nippondenso. The MANA system is cheaper, and is in base/R package cars. The Tourings have the Nippondenso system - all the ND components are MUCH more expensive.

Question is, is the Mana easily interchangeable with the nippodense, then is the Mana a POS? or is it about r12 or r134 engineering and line sizes?

 

Absolutely they are MUCH more expensive and they are NOT interchangable!! The compressor for the touring model will not work with the base or R1 models.
Don't know about the A/C lines but I bet they are not interchangable as well.

Compessor for the R1 costs @$300. Compressor for the touring model costs @ $600.

thanks for your response. I'm asking about the evaporator. not the compressor or condensor. any direct experience? or did Ray make a blanket statement? DARCARs Mazda Parts Dept told my mechanic could use the Mana and the FD01 lines. They don't have both parts in stock, though even if they do fit, I'll wonder if there is a design aspect to consider.

 

Ray said none of the Mana and nippondenso are components will fit each other. To interchange them one would have to braze on the old fittings or do a hose modification. He added someone in New Orleans did it a few years back. the diameter of the nippondenso threads were 22mm and 14mm.

The nippondenso is the FD04. I think I got the spelling finally right.
