Broken radiator fan - how serious is it?

I hit a decent sized bump a few days ago. Today, I was just adding a little oil to the engine & I noticed that one of the radiator fans (passenger side) was not running - it looks like something got caught in it and kinda shredded it. The other fan (drivers side) is working fine, though. The cars not overheating or anything at all.

How serious is this? Does it need to be replaced immediately or not that big a deal cause the other ones running?

To replace the fan, anyone have an approximate price? Availablitity of parts? Level of difficulty?

Thanks in advance,

Ian

Stock fans should be easy to find used. PM FritzFlynn - he can definitely take care of you.

The cooling system is one thing I don't like to push my luck on. It's your call if you should drive it like that or not.

Its pretty bad. You will overheat with only one fan, especially during warm weather. The cooling systems on these cars are barely adequate.

agreed^, i have a completely stock cooling system with exception of aluminum ast and i have to run (both) my fans on high ALL the time to keep my temps at 180F. This is thanks to the fan mods i have done....i shiver to think about ANY stock equiped radiator FD that doesnt have a way to kick these fans on early (be it fan mod, thermoswitch, ect ect). I wont get in to my FD when just sitting...without my fans engaged on high via fan switch my temps will increase VERY QUICK to the end. I never let it get high but i can tell that it would easy hit 250F+ after about 5mins of sitting at normal operating temp with no manual fan switch. Thats with or without driving lights on...stock thermoswitch and i would guess stock thermostat.

To all FDs with stock radiators and no temp gauge or fan mod...i warn you

I agree with everyone here, ya should really go fix it. There should be a decent number of used fan units floating around. Go search in the 3rd gen forsale section and, or post a WTB radiator thread. And to answer one of your questions, yes, it's pretty easy to swap the radiator fans out. G/L!

What percentage water/glycol are you using? It sounds to me like your cooling system isn't transferring heat well.
