brand new engine is backfiring at 3krpm

I just recently got a new engine and new turbos put in my '94 FD. So far I havn't taken it above 3500 rpms and have broken it in for only about 50 miles. When I accelerate and get right around 3k rpms, the car backfires really bad and seems to lose power. Anyone have a diagnosis for this? Similar problems with the break in period for any of you guys? Thanks in advance.

- Danny

PS: Every single new battery that I put in the car is dead in about 3 days...what may be causing this?

you may have some bad grounds, or your alternator may be shot. Check those two, also make sure your grounds are touching metal not paint

Danny I think that FD has been giving so much more trouble then you deserve.... Maybe you should move on to a Supra

But seriously, if the backfiring and loss of power after 3000k you are getting is more then normal, I would take it back immediatly to whoever did your rebuild. Could be anything form an ecu problem to lose vacume lines.

As for your battery, it sounds like either you have a really shitty ground (check for corossion and to see if you have a good contact) or your altenator is not working properly or is going bad. you could also have something such as a light or stereo equipment that is staying on after the car is shut off and drianing the battery.

Hope you get everything settled tho. Good luck.

That sounds EXACTLY like what happened to me and my car. The backfiring, dead batteries, etc. It's without a doubt your alternator that's the problem.
