Brand new act clutch failed

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Brand new act extreme street/strip setup. just got it in and running, less than a thousand miles and the rings that the tob pops into in the center of the pressure plate all broke and pulled out of the pressure plate. Now I get to try to get act to replace this stinking thing.

Sounds like you are talking about the wedge collar. That's a standard Mazda OEM part. I don't believe those come with the clutch kits (at least a new one didn't with my ACT S/S kit I bought a few years ago).

Yes, the wedge collar is a mazda part that act buys and includes with their kits. They generally only fail when something went wrong during install, which is easy to do.

Pretty much need to pull it. If there was a way to try and do it without dropping the tranny, I still wouldn't do it since you can't access the wire ring and the tabs of the wedge collar. You need to be sure they're not bent at all, and the grooves in the wire ring engage the collar tabs completely.

My first ACT clutch (back in 1999) failed over a couple months time.
But from a totally different reason. As friction material dust built up in it, the clutch became extreamly hard to depress. The tolerance of the pivoting parts was too small, and the dust was causing binding. Sent it back to Ray and got a free replacement which is still in my car and working fine after all these years.
