Brakes?

I have a 93 FD just curious to why when I get my car past 75+ mph and brake the car sways back and forth terribly! Im not slamming on them just just easing into them! It seems like the rear of the car sways more than the front and it is very uncontrollable and at times scary!

I think its something with your suspension... unless your abs is closing the caliper too hard.

Yea I thought it was the caliper too...I took it to the mechanic today and he said that is probably the reason but he said there isnt any way to check it! Just buy new ones and try them out! Is that true?

What kind of pads do you have? If you have a really grippy pad in back that might explain it too.

I would rebuild the calipers if you can do work yourself. It's not that hard.

Not true. You can tell if the caliper is sticking. Take it to a better mechanic. Many of the chain shops, Goodyear, Midas, etc off full, free brake inspections. (Althought I'd be reluctant to have the work done there. I'd be afraid of what kind of caliper they might come up with.
Although most advise against going to a dealership for engine work, they should be able to handle any brake job that comes at them. At the same time, the price of an FD caliper is going to scare you.

Priced the rotars at $110 a peice and I forget the price of the caliper but it was somewhere around there....expensive!

If you have never refreshed the brake system since you purchased the car, now would be a good time. I would recommend rebuilding the calipers and then installing something like the Bönez Brake Upgrade:

The rebuild kits you can order from Ray at Malloy Mazda. The rebuild kits for front and rear calipers would probably be around $40.
