Brake rotors - thoughts yay or nay on Dynamic Friction brand?
While my FD is in winter hibernation, I'll be doing some brake maintenance - basically a set of fresh pads, rotors and a fluid flush & fill. For the pads, I'm going with my usual go-to Hawk HPS pads front & rear, which I've used on my FC and had good experiences with for the typical driving I do, which is mostly street & spirited back road romps like Deals Gap. If I ever get some serious track time, I'll be swapping the pads out for a more track focused compound, but I'll be sticking with OEM or OEM+ rotors.
Which brings up my subject question. Normally my go-to on rotors would be a well-established OEM replacement supplier, like Brembo, Centric, Bendix, etc. In shopping around, I found these front rotors from Dynamic Friction on Rockauto for a very reasonable $36.79 each: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...t=1896&jsn=902
These rotors have an anti-corrosion coating which sounds great in theory, but since it's applied to the whole rotor (they ship DRY!) I wonder how it effects pad bed-in? This manufacturer claims (WRT bed-in) that "The coating is simply and safely swept away by the friction material with no harmful effects". Not sure if I believe that, or how it would effect the brake pads? Link for info: https://www.dynamicfriction.com/prod...c-brake-rotors
Anyone have experience running these Dynamic Friction rotors on their FDs?

Hey Pete!
It really just looks like zinc plating. For that price point I wouldn't expect some space-age special coating.
Factory brake rotors are the same way, the whole thing is zinc coated and that comes off quickly with a few applications of the pedal.
Also I like that it has the holes for the OEM rotor retention screws and has the threaded hole to pop the rotors off.
I'd have zero qualms with those. They may be more prone to warping due to the price point but it's worth trying, worst case you can use them to prop a door open

+1 the factory rotors are coated too, its nice because they won't be all rusty the first time you wash it
and then i'll add that 90% of the brake rotors come from the same factory, so you can shop on price/feature

Thanks guys, that's kind of what I figured, but all the rotors I've purchased before, even the ones whose hat & hub part surfaces are coated (like Centric) were shipped with an oily rust preventive coating on the disk surfaces that you have to wash off before installing. The Dynamic Friction ones claim they are shipped dry, with no cleaning prep necessary - that's what threw me off.
Anyway, I'll probably get the Brembo rotors for up front - they are only about $15 more expensive (each) relative to the DF ones on Rock Auto, and use the Centric coated ones (about $35 each) for the rears. I've had Brembo rotors up front in my FC for over 10 years now with practically zero wear, no warping or worries, so that's what's going on my FD now.
FWIW, the brakes that came with my FD from its PO are a set of drilled & slotted rotors & unknown brand pads (probably StopTech). They are safe enough for moderate street use, and well within their service limits, but when pushed they fail to inspire any confidence - they fade quickly after just a couple of high speed "rapid slow downs" I've done during repeated tuning pulls on the highway.

i bought Endless Super Street pads for my FC, and they have been great. pedal feel is nice, they stop better, and its nice and progressive.
the old pads really sucked, and i wanted something with some kind of specs, so i could try stuff and see what spec went with what i wanted.

Dynamic friction is the manufacture for some big name brake brands, centric, stop tech, and r1 concepts. From my research all of their basic brake kits are produced by dynamic friction. I have r1 concept drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads on mine and have 0 complaints.
Before I retired my FD from the occasional track use, I ran brembo up front and centric in the rear. Both from rock auto. Can’t believe the brembo rotors 5 years ago were $33. It costs me $500 for an OEM brembo on my type r. I haven’t run dynamic friction yet but curious why you don’t stick with those? When not tracking, I was running centric blanks all around. They are great.
