BrainSTORMING...how can I make the windshield wipers faster?
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed. It might just be my windshield wiper motors are old and worn and need replacing. But our windshield wiper speed, even in the highest setting, does not go as fast as other cars I see driving in the rain.
Even if it is just me and my motors need to be replaced. I think that an increase in wiper speed would be very beneficial.
So are their any ways that this is possible? Has anyone ever done anything like this?

If you twist the **** it will make it go faster. I'm sure you know that but thats about the only helpful advice I can give other than routing more power in to the motors.

The FD motor is not the fastest, even when new. And our old units are simply wearing out, making them super s...l...o...w
To my knowledge, you can try to ensure they are getting the proper voltage and then you can make sure all the contacts are clean. If so, the only thing you can do is buy a new unit. I just did this a few weeks ago from Ray Crowe at Malloy. Cost about $240 and it was the last unit available in the US. Much improved over the old, worn out unit but still not the fastest.

Constant threat
lol....I have always just laughed at the patheticness of the wipers on the FD. Slooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww doesn't even begin to describe them.
Have you ever tried to use them at 120 mph? They don't even work. (And please, no comments about, "OH YOU BAD MAN! Driving that fast in the rain! It wasn't what you think)
I would be curious if there is a modern, more torquey/faster unit available.

Have to agree with the Rain-X suggestions. The FD's windshield is canted enough that any raindrops simply bead up and quickly roll off with Rain-X application. In fact, the heavier the rain or the faster you go, the better it works. The only time I've had to use my wipers is in very light misting conditions (where wiper speed really doesn't matter) or light rain at slow speeds (again, wiper speed doesn't matter).

I won't let go
The only way is to get a faster motor. I don't think the alternator upgrade will have anything to do with it. If running an extra load of a wiper motor is casuing issues with not enough juice from the alternator, then I'd expect you to have issues with lights, ignition, etc. That motor isn't drawing THAT much.
I've had two now that are nothing but a giant POS now. Rain-x is your best friend. And if you have no A/C, the anti fog rain-x for the interior is a need to have too.

Rain-X is the only easy solutin, but you could check how mouch smaller wiper blade you can get away with. But if someone in your town rebuilds starters and alt's they usualy know a lot about motors, maybe they can put a longer moter on the drive. We try not to get ours wet.

This might also be an issue of poor line voltage since the supply runs through the ign switch. Installing a relay might help. I jumped the motor to the batt on the high side and it was considerably faster, but still not as fast as it should be... just like the pwr windows.

I about ran off the road behind a semi-truck on the way to Sevenstock a few years ago because of the slow FD wipers.
I wasn't the only one that counted themselves lucky to have made the trip through the rain.

Curious, we can use the 929 Brake Master Cylinder, wonder if the wiper motors would work? I am sure any other motor will need fabbing, but I would start in the Mazda "family" first, before going with an odd cars motors.

wow this saves me time from making a new thread... i was just on my way to work, AND YES I HAD RAIN X ON THE CAR, but there was traffic on the high way and i was going to slow for most of the rain to bead off. here is a video of how slow mine go on the fastest setting.. seems like its my slowest setting.. its been a decent time since i used them..
So is it the motor going or any ideas?
