Unhappy Boyfriend's car won't start nicely

Hello,
My boyfriend and I are new members here, but we've read most of the posts. Anyway, my boyfriend has a 93 touring with about 120k miles on it. Now we know for a fact the turbo's were replaced about 25-30k miles ago, but know nothing about the engine, and its condition. It has been running strong for the past month that he's owned it, but today when he went to the mazda dealer to get some new coolant hoses for the turbos (he was doing a little preventative maintence), while leaving the dealership the car wouldn't turn over, he looked at the dash and saw that the coolant needle was at about 10 o'clock, so he turned it off and let the fans run for awhile. After he cooled it he tried turning it again, and at first it wouldn't turn over, but after about 3 seconds of ignition on and the gas depressed (skeptical that that made a difference) it turned over. It stumbled at first but then settled down like it has the whole month. When he got it home he decided to let it sit for awhile before trying to crank it again, but it did the same thing no turn over. So before tempting fate he stopped and asked me if I could post my problem on this helpful forum. More info about the car: no modifications/stock everything except a new battery, all the coolant lines appear fine not too soft, we know little about any service done to the car other than the turbos being replaced. Anything helpful one could say would be very helpful as this is his daily driver and he loves driving it around. Oh and he doesn't rev it to hell either, normally stays under about 4 grand, mostly casual freeway driving.

Thanks,
Janie

Tell him to pull the plugs and look at them.

Also find out about the fuel filter, as to whether it's been replaced or not. Hell, replace it anyway to be sure.

10 o'clock was pretty warm, but not overheated. Could just be vapor lock.

Umm.. I'm reading your post through again. By "won't turn over" do you mean the engine does not turn at all, just some clicking noises, or do you mean the engine turns with the starter, but wont actually start and run under it's own power?

does in not do anything when you turn the key, that might be altenator problems, or grounding issues, or battery problems.

Sounds like they didn't get rid of the air in the system. I'm suprised they didn't tell you to buy a new engine in order to replace the coolant lines! Next time you change the windshield wipers they will tell you to replace the engine or the wiper fluid won't work (stupid dumbasses). He shouldn't have drove off the lot.

Stumbling when it starts? Have a race shop do a compression check. You can also just keep turning the key over and over again. My friends auto takes 10-20 turns to start and so does my honda. I'm not sure if its the starter, a relay or the ignition switch itself but eventually it starts.

New battery, if its water filled it could be bad allready. You should buy a sealed gel battery instead.

Doesn't rev it past 4k rpm? How does he know the turbos are working if the 2nd doesn't come online below 4500rpm.
