BOV trouble...

Hey guys, sorry to be such a pain... but I need assistance. I've got a turbosmart type 2 (vee port) bov which i've installed on my FD. I welded to my intake piping and putting the boost line on the UIM where the stock one went.

At beginning the pisten in the bov wouldn't open, but I found that the spring was far to big/tight... so I cut it down etc... now the bov is opening fine, but regardless of it's 'hard/soft' settings as it's adjustable... it continues to compression surge... Has anyone had experience with turbosmart bov's? Thanks in advance!

I'm confused on the position of your bov. Can you specify/ take a picture?

I think that in the position that its in, if I am understanding the correctly, the BOV is not functioning as it is supposed to.

It is supposed to be welded to a pressurized pipe (one between the turbo and the intake manifold), or connected to a flange inserted into the bypass valve hose near the intakes.

The surge you are hearing is due to pressurized air not going anywhere and causing it to whiplash on the turbos. Change the spot.

I've seen bov's on the intake pipe on FD's before and they seem to work? I welded a flange to my lower intake pipe... it should work shouldn't it?

Dennis,
When I understand it correctly...
NO .. It won´t work like that.

You Have to weld it on a pipe BEHIND the tuebo. Not Before the turbo.

It seems that you have welded it between Air filter and Turbo inlet.

You have to weld it between turbo outlet and intercooler or between intercooler and intake manifold!!

then it should work!

Good luck!

Dennis,
No, you're mistaken. There is no pressure in those pipes, they are merely drawing air into the turbos. On your vehicle: The black plastic piping from the turbo to the intercooler, the intercooler, and the black plastic pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body are all pressurized from the turbo, thus that is where to place the pressure release valve, i.e. the "bov."

See http://auto.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm

I think you are confused because the bov dumps its air back into the intake on some systems (including the stock one). The bov is plumbed from a pressurized pipe then into an intake pipe. ( or out to the atmosphere on some systems).
