bov going bad?

I have a oem bov, not sure on the mileage on it. I'm wondering if mine is going bad. When driving and letting off the gas, I will always get the bov woosh sound. No matter if I was in vacuum or boost. It gets a little old after a bit, and I remember on my old car I could tighten it so that it would only wooosh after X psi. I know the factory on isn't adjustable, but are 'new' ones less annoying or should I just replace it with aftermarket so I can have something adjustable?

Even if your gauge does not show boost, there could still be enough pressure differential on both sides of the BOV diaphragm to cause it to actuate. The pressure on your gauge is not the same as the pressure that the bottom of the BOV diaphragm sees.

Check page F-77 of the FSM for the specification regarding BOV (or ABV, as they call it) opening pressure. 3.9-6.7 inHg for air flow, 9.2 inHg fully open. They are using the small port, with the large port open to atmosphere - so these are gage (relative to atm pressure) values. It's pretty easy to build 3.9 inHg difference in pressure in vacuum situations.

Simple fix - reroute stock BOV back into one of the intake pipes.
Expensive fix - buy another BOV with adjustable opening pressure. This would also allow you to improve vacuum and low boost power, and improve transient response (compared to stock). Some aftermarket valves can be rerouted back into the intake as well.

Already did that, I'm running a CWR intake.
