Bose head unit - channel blown?

Some genius put an Alpine 4 Ohm speaker in the driver-side Bose enclosure. To make matters worse, they just cut the signal leads and tried to drive the speaker directly from the head unit, which I would guess is expecting high impedence. Probably as a result, the left channel is dead (new speaker/amp I just installed is OK, wiring is OK, no signal out the back of the tape player).

Is this channel internally fused, and repairable, or do I punt and start looking at a replacement?
