If I remember, I paid about $130 for my Borla Sportsman which is 16" long, 3" center inlet/outlet. It's a straight through design although there's a triangle-shaped insert that runs the length of the center tube. I paid $150 for welding the WG dump back into the downpipe, having the one-piece dp/mp seperated and a 3pt. flange added w/copper gasket, having a crack in the bracing on the exhaust manifold welded, and the Borla welded into the midpipe. Actually, it's not welded yet. I have two U clamps on it. Once installed, I'm driving back and having it welded. This will ensure that I get the angle right. There's lots of room down there, but I believe one will need to angle the Borla slightly for additional clearance.

Here's a picture of the midpipe XR1 combo. You can clearly see there's no room for another Borla there. Everything will be welded up on the car.

That's nice looking RX7TT95, but if it was welded what's with the U clamps?

u'll get more power out of a MP with a straight through muffler then a high flow cat. With good mufflers liek the borla there is almost no loss in power when compared to jsut an MP.

And bes of all....you get flames!!!

rx7tt95,

Is that a round or oval muffler?
I am assuming that everyone is using an oval Borla muffler.
Is anyone using the round one?

I had a new N-Tech high flow cat, the back pressure was 7 lb, what a joke.
I removed it and installed a Borla in a MP and my back pressure dropped to 2 lb.
I'm very happy with the Borla.

You put a gauge in the hole the O2 sensor goes.

In that photo, it had not been welded yet GoRacer :-) I wanted to install it and make sure there was proper clearance between the muffler and the undercarriage.

Mr. Stock, it's an oval.

FYI, there's PLENTY of clearance with my muffler. It does not have to be angled at all.

I have a Borla brochure around here somewhere.
The XR-1 Race mufflers have a 1-2hp loss when compared to a straightpipe in standard applications. Somehow, the were able to get the thing to flow BETTER than a straightpipe in certain race applications

Qball, If you do check your back pressure with the stock cat be sure to post it. With so many people claiming to sell "high flow" cats it would be very helpful to have a base line back pressure to compare with.

I think the proper way to test the cat's back pressure would require a measurement before AND after the cat. Otherwise you're taking the muffler system into account as well. Just to be scientific about it :-)

What do you all do with the airpump connection when installing a midpipe? Should I just block it off for the time being, I want to leave it there in case the midpipe does not work out
