boost question
ok, my fd has new plugs, wires, belts, and fuel filter, oil and filter changed every 2 k....
it will only boost patterns like 8-7-7.5 in third gear
in fourth gear today i saw 8-7-9
i dont know why it boosts like this
i dont see any loose vaccum lines or anything
any ideas of what the problem is
oh yeah..its stock with just dp, cb, and a drop in kandn filter
thanks

I run my stock ecu with a ATR hi-flow. I think it's easy enough to swap back out when it's time to smog it (assuming all the bolts are loosened after switching it the first time). Most of the increase for me at least seems to be noise

Pressure somewhere
Can only be a few things. If the boost values are that low, good start is the Cat for back-pressure problems. I would try a change-out with a friend, since you have a non-stock DP, very quick and easy but if your CAT isn't busted, you will probably want to keep it on your car for smog (depends on where you live).
Some other thing to check for are leaks in your hoses that send pressure air to the intake as well as the intercooler. For a stock engine your best bet at a hole or crack is the plastic hunk of stock crap that connects the turbo Y to the lower intercooler. If you got the time and tools, pull the stock intercooler and check it to see if there are any cracks, breaks, obvious leaks, put some duck tap on one end and blow in the other best you can and check for leaks. You can also put water in it and see if it drains out anywhere (only do this if you can leave the intercooler to drain all the water out, takes a few hours!!).
Rest is hoses on the upper intake that can eaisly bleed off a good 5-10 lbs of boost. My personal favorite is that little friggen hose that connects the oil filler spout to the upper intake (crankcase ventilation). That one has a large enough hole to bleed off quite a bit of boost and make your idle very annoying. Not to mention a check valve that if it not working properly can rob your boost just as bad. Usually a vacume hose or check-valve is accompanied by strange idle or idle recovery from acceleration. It would be obvious if a hose were to come disocnnected or checkvalve blew (all except for the checkvalve to the oil filler spout, you just need to disconnect that one and do the old suck-blow).
Hope that helps, good luck!! Hope that it isn't a turbo gett'en too much age!!
