Boost issues pressure tank...
Boost issues pressure tank...
Hi fellow rotorheads.
Im trying to fix my brothers boost issue on his 1994 FD running sequential setup. I dropped a 20B in my own a few years ago so Im a bit rusty...
So here is what is going on:
Ive got vacuum, and the rod on Charge control actuator is moving with key on. Ive checked all solenoids and they all click when 12v is applied. All one way valves hold pressure and all hoses are good, most freshly changed and attached correctly.
The pressure tank is good and it holds 12 psi, check it for bobbles submerged.
However when I pop the hose off it now air escapes, after a bit of hard driving.
Ive check that the air does not escape into the rack and I can't for my life figure out why I'm not getting any pressure into the tank!!!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but to my understanding the boost from turbo one flows up the hose from the back of the Ypipe passed the oneway valve into the tank, from the tank into the rack and on to the different solenoids when they need it…I can only assume that while driving the car one of the solenoids or actuators leaks the pressure but which one?
The system holds pressure with or without ignition so it must happen during transition.
The boost pattern was 8 psi to about 4500 rpm when it would bleed out to about 3 psi.
Ive now just done a poor mans non seq and car is making aprox 11,5 psi at 7000 rpms so i don't think we have a boost leak.

Only one solenoid uses the boost pressure. That's the Turbo Control solenoid or Solenoid "E". If you're losing pressure in the chamber, it's either the check valve or the solenoid. Make sure you check solenoids cold and hot. It's common to see them work at ambient and fail when hot. Not sure if it's a typo, but when you pop the hose off the pressure chamber, air SHOULD escape. It definitely shouldn't be empty :P.
I just got done checking my entire boost control system to get rid of my 10-5-5 pattern.

I tested all of the actuators on the car by teeing into their supply lines with a mityvac pump. Then I teed into each actuator supply line with a pressure/vacuum gauge and watched what they were seeing as I drove.
It turned out the system was working flawlessly, but my cold air intake had collapsed and was causing the intake hoses to collapse from the suction.
